As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

The Waiting Game... Friday, May 3

We have officially entered a waiting game.

We've done as much of prep work as we can and now are waiting for others to finish the tasks we've assigned to them.  It took us way loner than expected to get that dang floor padding done and it's my one regret, not shilling out the extra money to pay the professionals to do it. What would have taken the pros a day or two took us almost two weeks! Though we saved a healthy chunk of money doing it ourselves, it cost us a lot more time, effort and patience than we thought.  And if you factor in.all the clothing now splattered with the floor bonding with the blood, sweat and tears lost over this flooring, I think we pretty much balanced out.

The delay with the flooring has caused a delay with everything else, quite the frustrating rippling effect. Now it is done and we've done all the other renovations we can do, so now we are waiting for the other pieces to come together.

  • Parking signs to come from the printers.
  • Bathroom doors to be made and installed.
  • Private changerooms to be built.
  • Motivational wall banner to be printed.
  • Affirmation sentence stickers to be finished.
  • Club motto lettering to be cut out.
  • Monkey bars to be completed and then installed.
  • Other crossfit equipment to be assembled.
  • Kettlebells, dumbbells and medicine balls to arrive.
  • Boxing ring pad to be delivered.
  • Boxing ring cover to be printed.
  • Boxing pads to be deliverered.
  • Water tower to be delievered and installed.
  • Private shower room to be constructed.
  • Club towels to be made.
Today our outdoor sign came. I had gone to the printer's warehouse to first see it and was thrown back by its gigantic size. Then, when it did make its way to our boxing club, it seemed to have gotten even bigger than before. We all stood around laughing and chuckling over the size of it, knowing full well it surely had made a scene on the road having to be driven over propped up!

Besides the expected and obvious biggies -- signing the building contract and getting our business license -- there have been some key things that have really made this dream feel like such an amazing reality.

My top "This is really happening" moments that have defined our Hulk adventure:
1. Picking up our created corner ring poles.
2. Being handed our printed business cards.
3. The arrival of our outdoor sign.
