As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Go Fierce or Go Home... Sunday, July 14

What a life -- watching fierce friends and fellow fierce female fights during Invicta FC 6 and then heading off to work to train with additional fiercely determined women who always inspire me.  I tell you, there is definitely not a shortage of inspiring, strong and admirable women in my life... sweet.

I was pumped when I showed up to work today and I was surely ready to get down to some hardcore training.  One-by-one some fabulously fierce foreign women showed up to train at our club.  The first to show up was one of my Boxercise Beginners.  She's working hard at working off her baby weight so today I switched up her training and put her through a new crossfit-style workout circuit I had made -- she totally rocked it!  One of our usual Crossfit Circuit class ladies showed up and she pushed herself through a grueling workout that surely would have put some of our guys' workouts to shame -- props to her for that!  Extra rounds for padwork and hitting the sandbag extra hard was the workout I put through one of my Boxercise Advanced ladies.  I joined her to do a new ab circuit I created the other day -- "She-Hulk Hulked Out Abs".  It's a series of 7 ab exercises that target different ab muscles with a couple of full core exercises.  Usually I have my members do each exercise for 30 seconds but I expect more from my Advanced Boxercise ladies.  I make them do each for a full minute so that's exactly what we did.

(7 exercises x 1 min. each + 1 min. break in between) x2 = 15 mins. of abs

Sounds hardcore?!  I can reassure you, it was but if you still don't believe me then perhaps you should look at my back.  I pushed myself so hard that I ended up ripping off some of the skin off my back.  Yup, that's right.  I've got about 3 inches of skinless back, nice.

Watching the Invicta FC 6 fights and then spending a day training some super determined women, wow, so very inspiring.  The energy that my members bring to the club is always contagious and trust me, if they don't come with energy they're sure to catch some when they walk in the door.  It's very cool.

I originally thought making Flipside Fitness would lead me to meet such beautifully strong women and it did but with time some of them have faded away, lost their initial interest in being healthy or gone about their own thing.  I really found them at my boxing club.

The other day I had a good long chat with one of my girl friends back in Canada, about Flipside Fitness and whether or not I should just drop it.  My time, energy, money and effort is constantly consumed by the boxing club and though it is my job it is also my biggest passion right now.  I love making random circuits for my members and I do look forward to seeing this member and that member.  I have unique ties with them all and we all feed off of each other for energy, motivation and inspiration.  It's just so stress free whereas my concerns with Flipside Fitness and keeping them all interested and active is becoming increasingly hard and discouraging.  The ladies who came out to yesterday's Flipside Fitness event were the same people who are also members at my boxing club.  I'm going to give it one more attempt, one more event, and then I'll make my decision.  I just can't be the only one trying to keep it going in addition to juggling my fast-growing boxing club, it's just way too much.  I love Flipside Fitness but it's evolved into Hulk's Boxing so it went from being a hobby group to a full-fledge business -- a business that I absolutely love.  Perhaps Flipside Fitness is over and done but how do you know where the line is between giving up and letting go of what's done?

You have done an AMAZING job of keeping others not only inspired but informed on the path to "being better than yesterday!" Enjoy and embrace your success of having started with Flipside Fitness and parlaying it into a HULK-tastic community!

Hi Aisha,
Ahhhh thanks lady, I definitely try. I think my biggest thing with Flipside Fitness though isn't whether or not it's a success or not but that there's many members of it that are not a part of Hulk's Boxing and perhaps don't speak up or participate in our activities but do keep up with our Flipside Fitness FB page. I don't want to just drop it if this is the case because perhaps these same ladies may become active members in the future, you never know.
