As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Beach time for Birthday time... Monday, August 5

My last as a 32 year old gal and it was definitely an interesting one... !!!

So let's start with the 6am sudden wake-up, when our tent almost blew away with us in it, ya very strange.  Upon stepping out of the tent to better secure it, low and behold some random man was standing there beside his scooter -- a scooter on a path in a forest?!  Even stranger.

Scored a free camp site on account of the fact that apparently I had made quite the impression with the man I encountered early in the morning.  He helped us with our tent and I struck up a bit of a conversation with him, telling him I loved this beach but was hesitant to come back because of the rude camp grounds woman who tried to rip us off last time and yelled at Snickers.  Little did I know though, when I was telling him this, that I was complaining about his wife.  "I hope you do come back again" he noted, sweet.

We definitely will come back -- we'll be back on the 24th of August with the second Hulk's camping trip.  This beach we go to is just so great.  It's surrounded by forest and we've got our favourite spot in the forest, away from the other tents, where it's private and we're up on a hill overlooking the beach.  It's one of my most favourite places in all of Korea.

Was followed into the ocean by some random Korean guy who freaked me out a bit as he continued to follow me into the water and stare me down.  He was wearing normal clothes so I figured he'd only follow me so far until his pant legs started to get wet -- no such luck.  Leave it to me to turn around and ask him in Korean, "What's wrong with you?!"  Apparently nothing was wrong with him, he just didn't know I spoke Korean and he didn't speak English.  He then told me I couldn't go into the ocean so far because of the rough waves.  I gave him a thumbs up and when he turned to walk away I noticed something.  He wasn't just some random Korean guy -- he was a police officer.  I had been followed into the water by a police officer, great.  And here I thought it was my bikini that was stirring up the looks from those on the beach, apparently not... hahaha.

Turns out Pyen Chi is afraid of the water. She.was quick to chase me out into the water but, with the loud crashing waves splashing her, she was even quicker to run back to shore.  Pyen Chi loves the beach, I'm talking about she loves it so much she'll dig a whole in the beach sand, dig her nose into it and then eat the sand because she's just that in love with it.

We had decided to only bring Pyen Chi, on account that we could handle her but bringing the other two would be a challenge like none other.  And originally we had gone to another camp grounds -- to try out a different place -- but because we had headed out so late in the evening it was hard to pick out a camp site and we didn't like the other grounds we ventured to.  It was back to good old faithful for us -- our regular site that we knew we loved.

In the morning we woke up with just about a hour left till morning.  Snickers prepared a feast of meat and mixed veggies for us while I called my father.  I wanted him to hear the ocean waves in the background.  I was going to tell him that we had come here to celebrate my birthday but I think he's forgotten it.  Correction, I don't think he's forgotten it, I just don't think he's ever really remembered it because it was kind of my mom's doing.  She was always the organizer in the family so she always reminded him of special days and whatnot.  I figured telling him it was coming up to my birthday might make him feel bad so I just didn't say anything.

We spent the whole day playing in the sand, lounging in the hammock and watching the ocean waves... it was beautiful and so peaceful.  I curled up with Pyen Chi and Snickers for an afternoon nap and then we decided to head back to Cheonan.  The original plan was to stay until my actual birthday morning -- Tuesday morning -- but we had got word that the mother of another friend had just passed away so Snickers had a funeral to attend.  Ended up returning to Cheonan by 9pm and, like expected, Pacquiao and Balboa greeted us as if we were Santa coming down the chimney.
