I've never been one of those people to play the "Would have, Could have, Should have" game but I do ponder over the what ifs. I think everything happens for a reason; there is no such thing as luck, and there is always good in bad and bad in good. So when our club van got totalled tonight (yes, that's right), it got the wheels in my brain spinning in overdrive -- overdrive about the what ifs and trying to find the good in the bad.
Snickers originally was going to go on a scuba diving trip with some of his boys but then I found out it meant he'd be coming back Monday and said it wasn't fair -- not fair to me, our business and members who specifically train with him. When he couldn't get his buddies to agree to come back Sunday morning, he canceled his plans. He had come to the club to discuss this with me and had come close to closing. We headed out to leave together. Snickers then offered to drive our cleaning kid home and I was going to go but then I decided not to keep my scooter there overnight. "Go safe!" I told him, which meant drive carefully and wear your seat belt. He drove off one way and I went the opposite.
When he didn't return home shortly after, I texted him and then pictures were texted back to me. A middle aged woman had illegally u-turned into him no sooner had he dropped off our cleaning kid.
What if...
... I had gone with him.
I would have told him to put on his seat belt, like I always do and like he never does unless I am with him. Putting on his seat belt would have meant the impact of the crashing SUV wouldn't have tossed him to the other seat. NOT wearing a seat belt saved him... how ironic is that?! It was definitely one of those ironically strange moments I was glad he hadn't listened to me.
As for the good in the bad...
For starters, because the woman was 100% at fault, our insurance won't be effected.
Secondly, our van was totalled -- the side frame is bent too much to try to save it -- so we'll be getting a new vehicle. Hello SUV?! I'm pulling for a SUV.
So him not using his seat belt and the accident being her fault means we'll be getting a new vehicle. Tomorrow we'll be getting this massive Starex van as a temp until we pick our next vehicle.
Past/Present Members of our 4-Wheel Family:
1. Goldie -- our first car. Given to us by a sponsor who failed to ask if Snickers even had a license, which he didn't at the time nor had he ever driven a car at that point. Best car ever in that it was awesome on gas and filling her up at a new gas station scored us $1,300 worth of free gas!!!
2. Stinky Blue -- a temp work van when had for about a month while Snickers tested out a random car service job. The job turned out to be as annoying as the van so both went.
3. Maximus -- our beautiful large white scooter that was a beast of a beauty and excellent for winter driving. Sold her to a friend.
4. Kato -- the male version of Maximus but he had hydraulics so driving him was like starring in a Snopp Dog rap video every time, well minus the fact that he was Barney-purple (like the children's tv character Barney).
5. Gangsta Gotti -- my scooter that I still have. He and I have been through some tough times -- taxi accident a couple years back. He was stolen from me when I was back in Canada dealing with my mother's funeral. Later on we found him... and stole him back!!!
6. Bronco the Beast -- he definitely was a beast of a van and with his diesel engine you could hear him coming from the next street over. He was the first to tote around our four-legged family that we now have and he was happily used and abused by us. His side door didn't close right, we had lost his back seat somehow and his sunroof was the only form of relief in the heat because his air conditioner didn't work.
7. Lady Ghini -- this cool gal was a van with a sunroof and windows that fully opened, a feature Pyen Chi appreciated. We were quick to make her our official club van -- plastering our club name and logo all over her sides. She only was with us for a few months and tonight marked her passing. Loved this girl!
