Snuck this picture -- it's of the ceremony we had for Grandpa-Kim at the house.
But this was the priceless shot of Chuseok -- heading to Grandpa-Kim's tomb.
I always get so choked up watching Granny-Kim; she's such a precious woman and she loved that man like none other. Here was Dixie Cup running to Grandpa-Kim's tomb with fresh flowers while Granny-Kim walked alone, eyes full of tears.
I am always uncomfortable in these situations, the Kim family showing their respect for Grandpa-Kim by bowing to him. I may not be hardcore Christian but I've always been raised to bow to no one but God so I always stand on the sidelines for this. I respect their culture and admire their devotion but I have to stick to what I believe in too.
And one thing I don't believe in is us women taking on all the kitchen prep work. I stuck to cleaning up outside with Snickers while the little ones did some food prep.
Ahhhh Dixie Cup, it's be pretty cool to see her develop into quite the protective older sister for Butter Ball and lose the princess manner.
These two sisters are so different but both are turning into cool little ladies.
I'm most interested in Butter Ball. She's got an amazing story for a little girl who is only a handful of years old. She's such a fighter and I think her scar on the side of her face is a true testimony to just how tough this little one is.
... finally a shot without her sporting a messy face... hahaha.
Saying goodbye to Granny-Kim is always hard because I know once we all leave she's here alone. We really should visit her more because these family holidays together are rather hard on my patience and are not relaxing.
Looking back at Granny-Kim's village, I always wonder if she thinks of me from time to time or whether I'm just that foreign girl who never eats her breakfast.
