As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Positive Breeds Positive... Friday, September 27

I've always been a firm believer that life is what YOU make of it and I've really come to the realization that it's all in how you perceive it.  If you think life is so rough then you're going to see the rough in it, the bad, but if you think life is great and fill it with positivity, then that's what you'll see.  You view life the way you want to view it -- you see it the way you perceive it.  Perhaps I'm just rambling here and making no sense but I think my point is valid.  It'd be easy for me to get all down in the dumps over the massive debt for Hulk's that hangs over my head -- I owe an insane amount of money that could make grown men cry -- but I don't.  I don't because while there's an obvious negative side of owing such a debt there's also a positive side.

There's always good in bad, just like there's always bad in good.  It's all a matter of perspective.  I'm now at that point in my life where I really don't want to be preoccupied with the negative. I just want the positive and the positive is what makes life all that happier.  Today I started to list off the positive points of my day.  It had only been an hour and a half into my work day but already it was quickly filling up with positive points.  It wasn't until much later that I decided to expand upon this list and reflect on the additional positive points that occurred at work today.
  1. I met a new Korean female member who speaks awesome English.
  2. Sold a 3 month membership.
  3. Noticed that the amount of female members is on the uprise, very cool.
  4. Had a special 4-legged visitor and he was so handsome.
  5. Sold a pair of boxing gloves.
  6. Finally learned how to use that Korean card machine and today I made my first card sale.
  7. New Adidas sports bra arrived for me.
  8. Decided to work next week's holiday -- happy point because I love my job!!!
  9. NO non-members parking in our parking lot!!!  Had to rub my eyes on this one when I arrived.
  10. Met some boys on rollerskates... yes, rollerskates.  They stopped by to say hi;)
  11. Almost forgot Balboa... my little man came to work with me today.  Holy positive energy!
  12. Discovered the awesomeness of Best Stevia hazelnut in a protein shake.
  13. Watched the first half of "The Fighter" with one of my long-standing members.
  14. Yah for free broccoli!!!
  15. Was treated to a cappuccino by a member.
  16. "Let's Get it On" by DMX started playing right when I started my training -- perfect timing!!!
  17. Had a good in depth chat with one member about self sabotaging and positivity.
  18. Am always flattered whenever members open up to me and let me help motivate them.
  19. Am pretty sure I couldn't have pushed it more with my weight training today.
  20. Was called a 'beast' -- I'll definitely take that as a compliment.
  21. Got a random text message from a former member who is now away at university -- I miss you too!
  22. Felt good rewarding one of my younger members for his hard training.
  23. Finally got called 'coach' by my two female troubled-teens.
  24. Today marked the first day of no smoking for one of my female troubled-teens.
  25. Made a killer plate of pasta and loaded it up with chicken and spinach.
  26. Was asked if one of my young members could train alongside me for boxing.
  27. Scored a most random high-five today during training.  Thanks!
  28. My cleaning help showed up despite being MIA for a week of training.
  29. One of my younger members offered to stay late and help do our weekly massive clean.
  30. Finished cleaning BEFORE 1am, definitely much earlier than anticipated.
As many people know, I have a Poster Child Girl -- a young girl who first approached me months ago and asked me, "I diet, you help me?"  I've been helping her ever since but it's been really great to see just how hard she trains -- how hard she wants to change.  She'll never say no to an exercise I tell her to do and she comes to the club almost every single day.

Well, I have another poster child but it's a guy -- a young high school boy.  I've decided to call him the Kid Champ because he really tried his hardest to be the best at whatever he does.  Nothing is ever too hard for him, well at least he'll never admit that it is and I really respect that.  He lives across the street from Hulk's and in addition to coming out to training everyday, he always stops by to say hi.  Whenever I randomly drive to Hulk's on my day off, it's like he's got radar ears and can pick out the sound of our scooters because within a minute or two he's out the door and saying hi to me.  Today he dropped by twice to say hi to me before training -- once when I was outside and one time he came in to see if the club was busy.  Fridays are Free Train days at Hulk's but everyone knows it's almost my most intense day of boxing.  Instead of leaving my boxing to much later in the evening, on Fridays I usually start boxing around 9:30pm.  Tonight he asked me if he could train with me for boxing -- shadow the exercises I do.  After boxing, I then put him through the biceps and chest weight training routine I had done earlier in the afternoon. We ended our training with a little rope climbing competition and then I made him a free protein shake for his hard efforts.

He's a good kid... he's a great kid actually.

The Kid Champ knows every Friday we do a massive clean of the entire club -- a task that takes a solid hour to an hour and a half between the two of us -- so he offered to help us tonight.  I thought that was so sweet of him.  The more and more I get to know this young guy, the more and more I just think he's so great.  He participates in all my random challenges I pose to members, he trains so hard, and he's always so polite to our other members.  He and my Poster Girl Child are really great and I really hope they will have a positive influence on two other particular members of the same age.

Today's lessons:
  1. Everyday might not be so good but there's good in everyday.
  2. Positive thoughts generate positive feelings and attract positive life experiences.
  3. You can't live a positive life with a negative mind.
