As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Step Aside, Rocky has Arrived... Sunday, January 26

It was a busy day today.  Had my niece's first birthday party to attend and then was hosting a big sparring match at Hulk's in which a particular pro boxer from Rocky's Boxing Club in Seoul was coming down for.
The birthday party was much more enjoyable than I anticipated and I contributed it to Auntie Almond, Brooklyn and Granny Kim showing up.  Auntie Almond had no almonds for me though and we teased her about that.  She works at a massive chocolate factory so she's always bringing home chocolate "rejects".  No chocolate is ever a reject in my books but thankfully they're not an everyday "visitor" either or they'd be in my bad books.

I ran into Granny Kim right when I walked into the large beautiful buffet restaurant where the party was being held.  She looked up, saw me, and then dropped her plate as she reached out for me.  Granny Kim is the coolest 80+ year old woman I've ever met.

I had to leave the party early on account that I had to open up Hulk's.  Snickers dropped me off and then returned to the party.  I had just finished calling all the pesky parkers and they had just filed out of our parking lot when I noticed that not only was the parking lot full again but it was busting at the seem with more cars than we had spaces for.   Then suddenly the front door opened, there was a scuffling of feet and then it was as if the club was flooded with a million voices.  Turns out all those cars had come packed with family members -- the Kim family had arrived!  Turns out after the party they had decided to surprise me at Hulk's and what a surprise it was -- 19 Kims filed in through the Hulk doors!!!

After the Kim family had came and gone, it was time to get ready for tonight's sparring event.  We had matched up one of our most advanced amateur boxer, Kato, with a specific pro boxer from out of town.  The sparring session served numerous purposes, with the actual sparring experience for our young boxer not particularly being the sole main focus.  A big chunk of our focus was on the particular boxer we had invited from Seoul.

He had been specifically searched out and asked to come and, based on today's sparring and our dinner meeting after ward, we're very optimistic about our potential plans involving him.  He knows T-Boy and both T-Boy and him met Snickers at the same place and same time, unfortunately not both boys changed their ways.  Maybe we were wrong in trying to help T-Boy, he proved to not be wanting of our help, perhaps we should have helped Rocky (that's his official nickname as of...well... right now).  No sooner had we dropped Rocky off at the train station and said goodbye, but then Snickers and I both started to get text messages from him, expressing thanks and gratitude.  He posted all about us and Hulk's on his KakaoStory and Facebook, and then I noted he had changed his KakaoTalk ID message [see side yellow picture].  It translates into this:  "Thank you to everyone at Hulk's Boxing.  I love you ;) Please always play happily."

It was really great to meet him and his determination and focus in the ring mixed with his overly well-mannered behaviour outside of the ring really reminded me of both a mixture of Snickers and T-Boy.  I wonder who he'll turn out more like though.
