As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

What a Crazy-Packed, Crazy-Cool First Day... Thursday, January 2

With all of our student Hulkies now officially on winter break and many people quick to get a jump start on the aged-old popular new year's resolution of losing weight, we anticipated us to be busy at Hulk's.

The term "busy" was the understatement of the day.

27 members trained today.
2 of these members were returnees from months before.
8 of these were new members.

26 visitors today.

53 people walked into Hulk's today.

It was the first day of work for 2014 and we had kicked it off with introducing our Hulkies to Treasure Boy.  It honestly couldn't have been a better day to start him working with us and what an amazing addition he's proven to be to us already.  With me busy taking down all the Christmas decorations and Snickers dealing with the printers and their delay with getting our ad out, it was so great to have an extra pair of hands to help with running the club.

Later in the afternoon we started getting random text messages from two of our members, both asking us who we thought was the better boxer.  As the story turns out, in a conversation with WOW President, Mouse Doctor shot his mouth off and said he could beat Kato in a boxing bout.  I should note here that WOW employs Mouse Doctor and Kato is WOW's son so you know this conversation obviously didn't get just pushed aside.  A challenge was then sparked -- Mouse Doctor to fight Kato, in the ring, at Hulk's.  It wasn't until after both fighters agreed to the challenge that we at Hulk's were even informed but that was ok.  We're always up for a great sparring match.  So we set a time and, as the time quickly approached, both fighters showed up to Hulk's and along came crowds of friends supporting them.

At 8pm the sparring match started.  Members there to train stopped training while others stayed long after exercising to catch the action, friends filled the club and additional visitors showed up.  I counted 28 people watching tonight's sparring match and what a match it was.  In the one corner was Mouse Doctor, a very athletic young guy but a close friend of mine who hasn't been exercising for some time.  Having just missed death in a motorcycle accident that only recently released him from the hospital, he's been spending his days trying to recovery and get his health back.  In the other corner was Kato, the young, vibrant boxer who's been training like a champ since he started boxing half a year ago at Hulk's.  He's quite religious with his training, coming every day we're open to train and even showing up on days we're technically closed but are at the club doing work.

My bet was on Kato.

Mouse Doctor fought with strength, landing some strong punches and keeping a solid out boxer stance.  I really expected Kato to dominate the rounds but he let his emotions get the best of him.  He didn't listen to Snickers' coaching him through the rounds and instead he scrambled because he was angry and frustrated.  Both fought with a lot of heart and the crowd at Hulk's watching absolutely loved it but it surely wasn't the sparring match everyone expected; both boxers surprised everyone.
