As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

1000 Push-Ups Challenge... Saturday, February 1

It's a four-day holiday weekend and it's been nothing but exhausting for my K-Crew.  We're all going to need a holiday from this holiday when it's over.  But, despite the continuation of Friday's situation and us all experiencing stress-induced, sleep-deprived puffy eyes, Snickers was finally able to have three hours of "normality" today.  It was our date night so he came home for a bit.  I got to see him for about three hours today -- one hour while he napped, an hour out at dinner with me and then another hour drinking coffee at our favourite coffee shop.  We couldn't escape the "situation" though, and by situation I am referring to the crap that hit the fan on Thursday night.  So many people know about it now and early next week so will our lawyer and the police.

I had all day to get in my scheduled long run but didn't.  Even up until 3am I pondered whether I should go running or not but I just couldn't focus.  I was so completely distracted today, we all were.

I struggled going to sleep tonight and so I tried to download a sleeping aid app -- a phone app that plays nature sounds like rain.  It was rather ironic though because the very app that was supposed to help me get to sleep was what caused me to stay up even later than expected.  I just "had" to listen to all the different rain storms and forest sounds, listening for the loop in the sounds.

In my struggle to sleep, I stumbled across a fitness challenge -- the 1000 push-ups challenge.  It's a month long challenge where you divide the 1000 push-ups among the days.  February has 28 days but the first day is already done, thus leaving me with only 27 days now to complete the challenge.

1000 push-ups % 27 days = 37.03 push-ups a day
I'll have to do 37 push-ups a day and 1 extra on one of the days.

The 37 push-ups a day don't have to be done in one shot, instead they can be spread out within the day.  The point though is to get 37 a day so how you want to get them counted in is really up to you.  I've decided to do release push-ups for the challenge because I find they're the most accurate in counting because your chest has to touch the ground.  It either touches the ground of it doesn't.  There is no guessing if it's a full push-up or not like regular ones where it's easier to cheat and skip out on lowering yourself enough.  Release push-ups are very much like regular push-ups except for the fact that you do lower your body completely to the ground.  Your whole body touches the ground, you lift your hands off briefly and then return your hands to their position and lift your entire body up in one clean shot.

In deciding to take on this 1000 push-up challenge, I downloaded another phone app -- crazy about these apps these days!  It's a simple calendar app, called Jorte, and it enables me to keep record of my daily push-up counts.  I can simply record my count as a daily note and it will show the number count in the day's appointed calendar square.  I'm sure I could have used any calendar app but I liked the additional features of this particular on.

Tomorrow I start the challenge... it should be good!!!
