"Conundrum", I love that word, the sound of that word that is. I don't particularly like the stress and worry it brings with being in one. Our most recent conundrum is the fact that Snickers told our landlord "we'll be moving out soon". Those were his exact words as translated by me but I'm not too sure what he meant by "soon" nor do I know what my landlord interpreted in his mind when Snickers said "soon". Does "soon" mean before next month's rent is due and if that's the case than that's the 25th. Today is the 15th... and so you see the beginning of my conundrum of conundrums.
I have a sneaking suspicion that this is going to play itself out like how we originally moved into this apartment. Due to a mix up with a previous apartment agreement, to which my friend was immature and pooped on their front doorstep (seriously, no joke there), we only had one single day to find a new apartment before we were officially due out and homeless. I suspect our move this time is going to be just as dramatic and fast. This time, however, our move isn't going to be to another apartment but instead to Hulk's. That has been the plan for some time now but we've been delaying it as it's been quite the headache trying to figure out what to do with our three four-legged babies.
When we move into Hulk's, the problem won't be with where to put our house furniture or clothes, instead it'll be what to do with the pups and where to fit all our kitchen stuff. Most of our house furniture we'll be throwing out -- out with the over sized white leather couch, the office desk and chair, and so on. We're only keeping our three large shelving units, one of the two massive bedroom closet cabinets we have, our queen size bed, and my vanity desk. As for our clothes, we'll definitely be downsizing our wardrobe. I really don't need a zillion trillion skirts or dresses anymore and instead will simply be saving all my workout clothes and a few key staple items like a pair of black pants and whatnot. And with regards to our kitchen and the lack there of one at Hulk's, we'll be bringing our fridge and installing a bigger sink unit. But the pups... yes, of course we're keeping them, don't go silly on me now... in terms of where we'll be keeping them is the issue of concern.
I vouch that we should keep them in the club with us. We'll rotate among the three of them, who will work the floor with us that day, and the other two will stay in our bedroom during the busy hours of the day. We'll be installing our air conditioner/heater unit that we currently have here in our apartment into our new bedroom so the room temperature will always be monitored and comfortable for them. Originally, part of our decision to move into Hulk's was so that we could purchase two large air conditioning units so that the entire club would have air conditioned but we recently ran into another conundrum with that -- our conundrum has it's own conundrum, nice. Before the issue was money but now we have the money, now the problem is power. Our building floor simply doesn't have enough power coming in to operate them and increasing the power would mean being greatly taxed and having to pay that off every month. A big club means big bills but this bill isn't big, it's a freakin' hulk-size of a bill, woozers.
The biggest flaw in my idea is the issue of fur. A big dog equals lots of fur and a lot of cleaning. I think it's just a matter of extra cleaning and extra grooming though and I've told Snickers that if he agrees to let them live in the club with us that I'll do the extra work. Honestly, I am more than happy to do the extra cleaning if it means my four-legged friends get to stay by my side where I really think they belong and are most happy.
Our building is a five story building with three basements and somehow Snickers and I have basically become the maintenance crew for it all. When we had a mini flood last year, Snickers and I were left to arrange and pay for the needed outside plumbing. When there was a leaky ceiling, yup... Snickers and I were left to clean it up. I should note here that we're on the second floor and the root of the problem stemmed from the roof so we had three floors of leaky ceiling to patch up and clean up. And whenever there was a stray cat (which I vouch they're more like attacking zombies in that they always tend to lunge at me) or some random homeless person in the building, yes you guessed it, Snickers and I had that to deal with that too. Snickers argues that because the entire building has been completely abandoned and left to us to deal with that it's fair game with what we do with it. He's arguing that he wants to take over the third floor, clean it up and make an enclosed fixture just for our pups. The thought alone of having to clean up more human poop to make this possible turns me right off the idea. I don't want to scoop poop let alone let my beautiful four-legged friends whom I absolutely adore lay down in poop-stained floors. That's just nasty. And then there's the fact that if Pacquiao has no fear or problem with jumping out of a moving car's window then who knows what he is possible of doing. If he manages to escape such an enclosure, he's got six other floors of pure trouble to get himself into and that really freaks me out. I'm going to be such a worry wart, stressing out over my little jumping bean Pac. He is way too curious and destructive to be left alone like that.
As it stands, I have absolutely no idea if we're moving sooner than later so I'm trying to push Snickers into letting me send Pyen Chi and Pacquiao off to doggie training school for a month, leaving Balboa to stay with us. I figure it'll let them pick up some additional social skills, it'll buy us time to figure out their living situation and it'll able us to move into Hulk's and finish renovations before they come back.
So that's our conundrum, feel free to comment and by "feel free" I mean please do comment. I have three beautiful four-legged friends who I love to pieces and though I know there's no easy answer I also know it's no easy decision to even pick an answer. I'm well aware that perhaps we've bitten off more than we can chew with wanting to live at Hulk's with them but I think we can make it work. If we can make Korea's largest boxing club with little to no money when so many people, including my former coach, said we'd fail, than surely we can take a most unconventional space and make it a home for the five of us.

Congratulations on the "soon-to-be" move!
Congratulations on the "soon"-to-be move! Hopefully it all works out smoothly.
I'm confused. How big is the space where you'll be living? Are we talking just one single room or a series of connected rooms? Is there a door that separates the living area from the gym? If yes, why is it a problem to keep the dogs there?
Well well well ... this IS a conundrum.
First, I think your idea of a month of doggy school is a win-win. It gives you time and gives the fuzzies some social work. I have seen the results of doggy school and I am totally in support.
Second, I see where both you and Snickers ( I am dying at this name btw ) are coming from. On the one hand, there'd be more space for the dogs to romp and run around on an entire floor on their own. This would be good for the bigger pups; there's a big enough space to run without running into anything or knocking things over. It would be a matter of going over the whole area and making sure there aren't any weak spots for escape. I don't know what it looks like up there ( one big room, several small ones, etc.), but either way, I am sure there are things that can be done for it.
HOWEVER, I understand your cleanliness factor. Major ew for poop stained floors and cleaning up all that stuff. I, too, would prefer to keep my babies close. But then, I'm lazy and have a >5kg mongrel. > o>
I am sure you know whatever decision you make, there are lots of people who will come out and support you, and help out, including lil ol' me til mid August.
Thanks Eun Hwa ;) I'm not too sure on how smoothly it'll go but it's definitely going to go down. We're hoping to get the moving crew to do it late, late Friday night, like midnight late!!!
Hi Anonymous,
Well our boxing club is 200pyung (sorry not too sure the conversion, this is a Korean measuring unit). It's very large, let's just say that's very safe to say. As for our personal living area within the club, we have three rooms to play with -- our office that will become our bedroom, and two rooms behind the juice bar. One of the rooms behind the juice bar is a small spare bedroom right now but we'll be making it a little library/reading room and the other one will remain storage. Just yesterday I thought of a perfect idea however, use the side door entrance area. It's a small room that has a direct door to outside and right now it's just locked and holds our winter heater in it along with the garbage. I'm thinking I'll use it. It's a smaller room but it is closed off from the rest of the club, as are the other three rooms. My concern is that the dogs (especially Pac) will get aggitated by all the noise on the other side of the door and bark. Pac will bark and Pyen Chi will get distructive if frustrated. Balboa will either bark or will be in the club with us while we work (spring and summer only).
Hey Gimarie,
Do you have any contacts for doggy school? I've heard great reviews but have no contact info. Am really wanting to send Pac and Pyen because Pac hates everyone except my hubby and I and Pyen Chi randomly gets annoyed with people -- both manners I want to correct.
You like my hubby's nickname, thanks... hahaha. It came about when I first met him. I called him Snickers because Snickers is the chocolate bar I've come to associate with my boxing -- I always eat one right before a match, to give me a sugar rush, and well, he was quite the sugar rush when I started dating him (as he still is). Plus chocolate tastes great but it's not really good for you and that's what I thought of him and his badboy rep that followed him.
I think we've decided to scrap the third floor idea all together -- it's huge and it'd mean hiring a truck to empty the place of all the loose drywall on the floor, not to mention a good hosing down!!!
Til mid August... what?! Don't break my heart. I already hardly ever see you as it is!!!
