No work for me today, on account that I am nursing both a potential trigger finger and a runner's toe. The long of the short story of what a trigger finger is, it's basically when one of your fingers or your thumb gets stuck in a bent position and then straightens with a snap — like a trigger being pulled and released. In my case, it happened last night after my boxing. One of my fingers on my right hand suddenly got stuck in a bent position and then it suddenly snapped. This particular finger hasn't exactly been bending comfortably lately but it hasn't been too much of a concern for me. I had simply written it off as just another job-related injury, and by job I mean boxing. Tonight's incident was a first ever for me experiencing this trigger reaction and when it happened I screamed out and then violently shook my hand because it kind of freaked me out. After it happened though, my finger felt just like normal, that is it felt uncomfortable like it usually does and so yes, that's normal. I looked it up online and it stated that trigger finger is caused by a narrowing of the sheath that surrounds the tendon in the affected finger and yes, it was very painful like it noted it was.
As for my runner's toe, it's basically bleeding under the toenail due to repeated downward pressure on the toenail. Some call it "black toenail" because that's exactly what it looks like due to the blood. It's quite common among runners as it is among tennis players and skiers. I got my runner's toe during my half marathon when I decided to wear my Hulk indoor club shoes. I didn't have enough time to buy a new pair and work them in so I wore my indoor work shoes because they were worked in but the soles weren't as run down as my usual runners. The irony of the situation being that I thought they'd be better to run but they weren't because my usual runners are a bigger size, as to avoid such possible discomfort. I've been struggling to train through the pain because yes, it's very painful. Even the slight pull on the bed sheet at night causes much discomfort and pain to my left big toe. It's still painted in shiny gold nail polish and I've yet to take my polish off because I don't want to see the horror that surely will be revealed.
Today is my day off but with the day ending comes me returning to work and by day end I mean 7pm. I didn't head into work today, as hoped for, because I've only got one day to nurse myself back to health before it's go, go, go again for me. So here's to hoping I make it through Thursday and ride the fact that Friday is Free Train day. I'm not too sure if I'll be doing my boxing for the rest of the week, let alone really putting my weight on the left foot and walking on it properly. And then there's of course my freakish finger, I don't want to TRIGGER that situation again (yes, pun definitely intended there). Oh the joys of being an athlete, my energy surely gets tested as does my pain and tolerance of such random injuries. I may never really get sick but I do have my fair share of injuries.
