I love Cheonan, I really do, but there are those days that randomly come along that I just want to escape it -- escape running into random people at most random moments, at random spots and definitely at some pretty random situations here. Having now been in business for over a year and having had trained well over 400 Cheonanites at one point or another, sometimes I feel like I can't even so much as walk down the street without someone knowing who I am because of either Hulk's or my boxing. I'm constantly addressed as "that boxing girl" or just simply "Hulk's" and though both labels are flattering and only reinforce that what I'm doing is being noticed, sometimes you just want to blend in with others. Sometimes you just want to go unnoticed too actually. Today was one of those days when we both just really wanted to go unnoticed; to disconnect.
We spent most of our day in underwear and slippers, lounging around Hulk's with our four-legged friends and watching whatever and nothing in particular on TV. By the time 6pm rolled around, we were getting a bit stir crazy in the club but didn't really want to go out.
Correction, we didn't want to go out in Cheonan but we wanted to go out.
A phone call from a friend and next thing I knew it we were being invited out for a special dinner for two curtisy of a friend of ours who just so happens to be an awesome chef. He was the chef who cooked our Hulk's Boxing Thanksgiving dinner and, unknown to most who attended, it was his first time cooking turkey and making stuffing. Turkey and stuffing aren't usual items on a Korean's dinner plate but he pulled it off with great success so props to him!!! Anyways, we agreed to come to his restaurant so we got ready and out the door we headed. Me dolled up in a new little black dress and killer heels, Snickers in a pretty boy pair of shorts and nice shirt. We were looking good and smelling good.
The restaurant was so beautiful, much more than I honestly expected. With it's dark wood interior and mellow mood lighting, it definitely rocked the romantic date vibe. It was a steak and pasta place. A feast of delish food arrived at our table, one after another but definitely more than we expected -- salad, bread, two plates of pasta, and one large, juicy steak.
After what was surely the most romantic dinner we've had in a while (especially considering most of our meals out are joined by one of our sponsors accompanying us), we left bellies happy and smiles on our faces but now we were curiously looking for something to get into outside of Cheonan -- a reason to leave as suppose to hiberate at Hulk's. We ended up deciding to go to Seoul for late night shopping.
I don't particularly like shopping but must say I like midnight shopping in Ddongdae-Moon -- a late night department store neighbourhood where the malls open late, a late night street market takes over the sidewalks, and shoppers infest the whole area. Tonight we headed there early, 10pm, we usually don't leave Cheonan until midnight for Seoul. We only had two things we wanted to buy -- I wanted a new bag and Snickers wanted to buy a baseball cap. We got the bag and cap but also picked up the most adorable two hats for Snickers' niece and nephew. Two hours of browsing through the streets and malls and that's all we got. Well, not exactly. We also bought a bit of street food snacks to nibble on -- lemon juice, two chicken sticks, and fish-on-a-stick.
It ended up being quite the beautiful evening out -- dinner and shopping. I can't even begin to explain how good it felt to get out of Cheonan, to just be two random people in a crowd full of other random people. No one to interrupt us, no one trying to search us out or wanting us to drop by. No one distracting us from just enjoying each other's company and our time off.
