This Friday we'll be hosting a Spooky Movie Night at Hulk's in celebration of Halloween and I'm hesitant as to if I want to go all out and decorate considering the most recent "haunting" events here. I have some of the decorations left over from my Flipside Fitness Halloween party, like a giant spider and pumpkin lanterns, but I'm trying to hold off until this Friday to actually decorate or put forth any effort. It's rough enough going to bed with random noises and waking up to the dogs going in pure defence, fight mode without then having to hang up a giant spider and it's webbing, and fake tombstones. I don't want to be afraid at Hulk's. I don't want to be afraid living here at Hulk's, and I'm the kind of girl that these extra Halloween props will definitely get my imagination flowing and heart racing.
Initially I wanted to go completely all out and host a haunted club event -- a spook tour through the entire abandoned building -- but now I'm not for it. This building has some real creepy spots in it that would spook you on an average day when the sun is high and shining in. The bowling club on the fifth floor is super freaky. I remember once when Pacquiao chased a cat up to that floor. It was totally like a reenactment of the scene from "I Am Legend" when Will Smith's character goes in the building and then is trying to get his dog out. In the corner of the floor he ventures on there are zombies standing around, facing the corner. I think of that scene every time I go up there now and so I try hard not to have to go there. Any and all natural lighting from the windows on the fifth floor is completely blocked by a hallway wall they made and on the other side it's like they just got up and left. I'm sure you could, if you wanted to, gather all the random bowling pins, set them up and have a full game because there's bowling stuff every where.
And don't even get me started on the floor below us and the three basements. I've heard all about the fact that one of the basements was an old club but I absolutely refuse to go down there for the very fact that I rather not pee my pants, thanks.
The idea behind the haunted club event would be each person would walk through the building in pairs or small groups of three, depending on the attendance, and they'd have to collect clues and/or do certain dares. Of course having to make these things available in both English and Korean would be difficult enough not to mention thinking up of the ideas and then preparing for them. But we were going to do it. That is until this past week.
As many of my friends know and as you can read about in my Thursday's posting, this past Thursday I experienced most definitely my scariest night ever at Hulk's. It was a night of super strange footsteps, one large shadow and lots of shakes and tears on my behalf. Friday night was accompanied with one stack of member cups randomly falling over around 3am and then last night Snickers left me to sleep alone at Hulk's. He wanted to go out of town to go scuba diving with friends but given the previous two nights, he said he'd hold off if I was too scared to be alone at Hulk's. I insisted he go and said I was a big girl but I was nervous going into the late night hours last night so I tried to avoid any possibility of being spooked by going to be super early. I went to bed at 10pm but not before I seriously booked it on the treadmill for a solid 30 minutes and ate a light post-training snack. I had exhausted myself, exactly as plan, and so when I went to bed I was surely ready for lights out.
Shortly after 11pm I woke up to a knocking sound. Someone was knocking on the club front doors, causing the dogs to go bonkers and me to put the pillow over my head. No sooner had the knocking finished but then my phone started ringing. It was Wow, my sponsor. I think it may have been him too at the front doors, checking up on me. I didn't answer the knocking on the door nor did I answer my phone. And on that note, I went back to sleep. I woke up again though, around 2am, when the dogs started growling. I woke up to them all standing by the bedroom door, their noses pressed right against it, so I opened the door and let them free. Usually we make them all sleep in our room when we go to sleep but I figured if something or someone was in the club, I wasn't going to wait until they reached my bedroom door for the dogs to attack them or scare them off.
So ya, no haunted club event, just a simple movie night. The way I look at it, there's no point in decorating and making a "fun" event out of what's become a nightly occurrence for me, being spooked in one way or another.
