As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

A High School Sweetheart Story... Friday, November 8

Yesterday marked the 50th day anniversary of our Hulk's Boxing couple -- two high school sweet hearts that first met here at Hulk's. They sometimes train together but these days the boyfriend comes here extra early to train with his buddy. She then comes in to do a short train and he hangs out at Hulk's with his buddy while she does her thing. They always leave together. Well today, like usual, the boyfriend came with his buddy for training. By the time he was done training however, she hadn't arrived yet. I watched as the buddy left and just assumed he left the one boy in the locker room to wait for his girlfriend. I didn't think much about it until one of our other members, some time later, approached me and asked me why there was a young guy sitting in the locker room with a cake on his lap. I went to go check it out and low and behold there sat the boyfriend with a cake on his lap. He had finished training, showered and had changed into a pair of dress pants and a handsome sweater instead of the school uniform he had come walking in wearing today. He looked so adorable but seeing him sitting alone in the corner like that, waiting for her, he looked almost like a kid sent to time-out. I asked him when he was expecting her and he said he didn't know.

He sat this for a few hours until he got up and walked out. No one said anything and no one asked anything either. We just watched as he walked straight through the club with his backpack slung over his shoulder and his cake box in hand. They're a quite sweet couple, meeting at the club on Free Train Fridays and doing laps around the club hand-in-hand as opposed to training.

Today the boyfriend never came for training. His friend never arrived either, nor did his girlfriend. I'm not too sure of what became of yesterday's 50th day anniversary but I'm sure I'll be filled in on Monday when both boys are scheduled to spar with Snickers.  In my version of the story, she was somewhere sitting waiting for him while he was waiting here for her and then later, when they realized it, they giggled over it all, had their first kiss, and then took today off training to have a real anniversary date.
