As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

A New Number One at Hulk's... Wednesday, November 19

I'm handing myself bragging rights here -- I have successfully dethroned Wow!!!

I am the "new Wow" at Hulk's... hahaha.

I waited all day for Wow to come into training today so that I could do his InBody and put him in the rankings.  More importantly though, I waited all day so that I could see where I ranked in comparison to him.  I didn't care if he was still number one or not, I just cared whether or not I had finally beat him.  After months of hard training and clean eating, I just wanted to beat him.  He is in exceptional shape but when you throw in the fact that he's our oldest regular member and, wow, he definitely is wow in more ways than one.  Wow is wow!!!

I was running a Crossfit class when Wow showed up.  I hollered at him when he arrived, announcing for all to hear that he'd be doing his InBody.  Fellow members who are well aware of our rankings and have got quite competitive with each other all perked up with anticipation.  When he did his InBody and we all eagerly awaited as the printer warmed up and printed off his results.  I grabbed the results from the printer and my eyes pretty much jumped out of my head with excitement.

I BEAT HIM!!!

I seriously couldn't contain myself.  I jumped up and down and shouted with such excitement.  "I'm sorry, but this means I'm the wow now", I jokingly told him.  Honestly, it felt so good to beat him and not because I feel I should because I am a coach here but because I've been trying so hard.  I put my body through hell and back with preparing for Thailand and I just needed some kind of confirmation that all my dedication and determination had paid off beyond just scoring that KO victory in the ring because I have kept up with my intense training even after returning from Thailand.  Moreover, I too am not one of these young pups here like the majority here and I'm a female.  It is an issue of gender for me, most definitely.  Women naturally hold more body fat than men and men tend to gain and have more muscle than women.  Both my body fat and muscle percentages beat his.

Wow is still very much holds that wow factor in my mind and at our club among our Hulkies but it was so very cool to know that I was up there with his ranking and that I had actually beat him.  There's no more hoping to beat Wow, now there's a new goal for members -- beat me!  I think that's pretty awesome and I look forward to being that person they do try to beat.  Bring it on.  I love the competition and I'll happily brag and boast about anyone who beats me because it's all about making yourself stronger and healthier.  I've got nothing but props for those who do exactly that, even if it means bumping me down in the rankings.

Upon the realization of my victory, I messaged Rocket and told her the great news and no sooner had I messaged her but then she arrived at Hulk's, all pumped and ready for her InBody.  She too was eager to see her new ranking.  When she stepped on the machine, I told her that I didn't care if she beat me or not but that I was just pumped one of us fierce females had finally beat Wow.  Her InBody results were very impressive and she too definitely proved to be quite the fierce competitor with our Hulk's updated rankings.  Rocket is currently tied in third place with only a one point difference between her and Wow, that's how awesomely tight this ranking competition has evolved into.  Hulkies' points are increasing and that's awesome.  Both Rocket and I not only scored higher points on our InBody results this month but we also moved up in the rankings.  Last month both she and I tied for fourth place but it's a whole other month now and a whole other ranking status.  She's currently in third place and I'm in first "and that's why she's my running partner and I am her running partner!", I told Wow.  "The women of Hulk's, WE are wow!"
