As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Stacking Up our Amateur Team... Tuesday, November 4

My FIRST draft pickings for our Hulk's Amateur Team were as follows:
1. Kato -- our prized amateur boxer
2. Wow -- our leading sponsor and definitely one of our most impressive boxers
3. The Kid Next Door -- the Chicken Godfather's son
4. Baby Popeye -- one of my mini Hulkies!!!
5. KS the SK (SK = the Silent Killer)
6. Ninja Girl -- the only female on the team and she's got amazing potential because she's focused

Kato has agreed to fight.

Wow won't fight because his wife, Wow Mama, will have a total flip out.  She's already struggling with her son being Kato and one of our more active fighters.  I told Wow he'll have to bring Wow Mama to the club so that I can talk to her.  "What are you going to say that could possibly change her mind?" he asked.  "Nothing", I answered, "but I'm going to keep on talking and talking until she has no choice to either say yes or risk her ears falling off".

The Kid Next Door hasn't been to training this week because his membership fee is due and his father is being, well, "difficult".

Baby Popeye might agree to fight just so that I don't constantly nag him all the time about it.  "Can I stop and have some water?" he asked me during training.  "Fight at the tournament and I'll give you water whenever you want.  I'll even buy you your own special drinking cup!"

KS the SK is hesitant to say yes because he will be out of the country the week leading up to the fight and lacks the confidence and knowledge of just how good of a boxer he actually is.  He's one of our quietest members but he totally comes alive in the ring like no one would ever expect.  I'll have to keep on him.

Ninja Girl thinks I'm joking and every time I ask her she just smiles and shrugs her shoulders.  I'd love for her to fight not just because I'd love for a female representative from our club but because she's one of the most dedicated female boxers we have here at Hulk's.  For the most part, you can always tell who the really dedicated ones are because they're the ones who show up on Free Train Fridays to put in the time and effort by themselves.  She comes and she's definitely 100% here and focused when she's training.  I admire her eagerness to learn and dedication to her boxing training.

In a discussion with other Hulkies and asking them who they'd recommend, a 7th picking was made.  A middle-aged Hulkie who I argue is a business man by day but a fast, fist-throwing machine by night.  I approached him yesterday about it and he said he'd have to talk to his wife about it.  "She hates fighting", he said.  "That's ok", I told him, "it's not her fighting, it's you. My husband fights and I am ok with it."  Of course I have to leave it to him to decide and I have to respect it if he says no but I know he wants to fight.  I doubt his wife knows just how much sparring he does at Hulk's.  Well, today as soon as he entered the club I questioned him if he was going to fight.  I was all the way at the back of the club, back by the bedroom, when I saw him in the reflection of the mirror.  He said YES -- he's going to fight!!!
