As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Touching Bases on This and That... Thursday, January 8

Ferrari is gone.  Her owners came and took her home -- back to her real home -- and I cried.  It was a bitter sweet moment and I felt sadder to see her go then they did to see her again.  This is the second time she's done this they said.  It was rather fitting that she left today because today Rocket returned to Korea.  Ferrari was to be a new running partner but Rocket, my current running partner, returned today from her holiday.  Rocket and Ferrari never met but it would have been awesome to have the three of us head out for a run together.

A new Hulkie registered today, a foreigner girl whose English is about as good/bad as Snickers' and I found it all too funny to be living here in Korea talking to a foreigner but having to use Korean.  Like me, she too is married to a Korean man and she too has been in Korea for 10 years.  She is 3 months younger than me but while we're both sport very similar statuses, she's a mom and thus we differ so much.

One of our long standing members swung by the club to say goodbye.  He's heading off to the States this week to see family and friends.  I'm super excited for him but couldn't help but wonder when I too will be able to stake such a claim -- tell people I'm leaving to visit family and friends.  It's been 3.5 years since I last touched down in Canada and once I returned to Korea the launching of Flipside Fitness kept me super busy but things really got busy once ideas and plans for Hulk's took off.  Now I question if Snickers and I will ever be able to travel to Canada together.  Not only do we have the three dogs now but we also have Hulk's and when the doors of Hulk's are closed the money stops coming in.  Taking time off for holidays is always a cautious thing but visiting Canada would mean taking more than a few days off.  To travel all the way there after such a long absence and then to drop such a chunk of cash, we would be looking to be there for at least 2 weeks but the reality of it is that we would probably only stay a week.

Our Indiegogo campaign is going strong and steady.  It's getting a lot of attention on Facebook and numerous friends and family have messaged me saying they'll donate.  I just don't know when and if for sure those that say they will will so it's rather nerve racking.  I joked with Snickers and said that if all else fails and we don't meet the needed funds that I'm healthy, I could start selling my organs.

One of the perks in our Indiegogo campaign are Hulk smash jelly bracelets; they're added with a few of our perks actually.  Today we decided to order extra to sell here at the club.  We're thinking about offering them to our members on a donation bases and by that I mean members will be asked to donate what amount they seem fit.  We will have our "suggested donation" but it will ultimately be members' decision.  The shipment of bracelets will arrive early next week so this weekend I will be making a display case/donation box to put in the club.  We will be ordering 150 Hulk smash jelly bracelets -- 75 green and 75 hot pink.  The green bracelets are glow-in-the-dark with black lettering and the hot pink have white lettering.  Both read "Hulk Smash -- Hulk's Boxing, Cheonan, South Korea" and are both are equally super cool.

Next Friday our three month Hulk Smash event ends so we will be selling our custom boxing gloves from here on out, as well as selling our custom handwraps.  Currently we've been offering a free pair of Hulk's gloves and Hulk's handwraps with the purchase of every three month membership; it works out to a $120 discount and many members have jumped all over this event.  Come Friday though it will end.
