As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

MAC Makeup, Perfect for Disguising Fight Bruises... Friday, February 6

In unofficial news, I have a bodyguard. This resulted from a little scuffle I had outside of Hulk's last night and one person from Hulk's who arrived for training just as I had come back inside. What started off as me pointing out someone's complete lack of common sense resulted in something so ridiculous and I can't exactly tell Snickers about it.  He punches buses for goodness sake and ya, ok, so it was only one bus but the guys and I last night all agreed it best we don't tell him.  The situation took place but now it's over.  I'll have to wear a bit of cover up on my face to disguise the bruise but my hair should be enough to keep it hidden.  My so-called bodyguard was the very last to leave last night, staying an additional 2 hours after training, and he was one of the first to arrive today. He arrived, showered and then stuck around for a few hours -- no training for him today and no outdoor street fights with crazy middle aged women for me.

We have this ajjuma (middle aged Korean woman) who continually brings her dog up to our dog's doggie room fence. The door is locked but not always is it.  Regardless, what about 3 dogs, one of which is clearly bigger than her 3kg-dripping-wet mutt, says it is alright to approach the gate and taunt them?! I don't know. She does this at least once or twice a week and it has been going on for way too long. The sign on the gate reads stay away and anyone approaching it is responsible for any consequences so I can't say she wasn't warned but I doubt she ever thought me in her face would ever become a possible consequence.

Our pups go berserk when she does this and so do I because I have to stop whatever I am doing to calm them down. The other day it happened in the middle of me coaching a crossfit class and it happened again yesterday too. Yesterday they quickly calmed down but I didn't. I was managing the club by myself plus doing my own training so I flung open the dog's cage room door and insisted Pyen Chi to come with me. I figured that her with me would scare the lady away, no such luck. Pyen Chi growled, her dog continued yelping like a crazy dog, and then the lady started yelling. I had Pyen Chi by her mane but when the lady went to go kick her I crouched over to protect her. I got kicked.

Hurt my dog and I will seriously open a can of crazy on you like you have never ever seen before. That's not a threat, that's a promise. I was so shocked she had kicked me and had kicked as hard as she did. I was ok but that kick could have seriously hurt Pyen Chi.  I stood there with my hands shaking. I knew I wanted nothing more then to punch her but I knew if I did I would hurt her and risk the police getting involved so I didn't.

I thought perhaps she'd say sorry for accidentally kicking me....nope. Instead, she walked down the street and stopped at the end where she then threw some nasty comments back at me. She stood there yelling so I walked up to her. I didn't say anything but instead watched in disbelief as she hollered and continue to make quite the crazy woman scene. By the some of the local shop keepers had come out and were standing in the street watching.  The lady at the motel down the street approached and took Pyen Chi from me, assuming a fight was about to break out.

I am a professional boxer whose boxing license leaves me legally vulnerable in situations like this, even more so because I am a foreigner here and a business owner. I had been kicked twice tonight, once in the face and another in the kne. For those of you who may assume here that I hit her, sorry to disappoint you but I didn't. Instead, I grabbed her by the collar of her jacket, twisting it in my grip as I pulled her right against me.  I then insisted she to say sorry to me and to say it loudly for the now growing audience to hear.  It was an intense moment and one of the local shop owners tried to get me to let go of my grip and forget the situation but I just couldn't.  Instead I turned my wrist more so her collar tightened around her neck.  "Say sorry and I'll let you go".  Finally she said sorry so I let her go.
