THE GAMBIAN BOXING TEAM
This team of boxers from Nigeria is coming whether or not we're ready and that both excites me as it does spook me because I'm totally new to helping someone with their visa and dealing with immigration from a employer's position. Their coach emails me every single week and today I received the pictures of the fighters with their fighting records. Much to my surprise, one of their fighters travelling here to Korea is a female. She's in a weight class a few above mine but none the less you can imagine my surprise and excitement to hear that a female will be joining in on this experience. There will be 6 boxers -- 5 males, 1 female, and 1 coach travelling here. It's going to be an amazing experience that I simply think is too good to not partake in and not have my club get involved in. I think it will be amazing for both them as a team and us as a club and young business. I bought us time with telling them our ring wasn't ready but that only gave me an extra month. They're looking to come March 2nd and though I've talked with a local motel and have much of the finer details figured out, I've yet to figure out what the heck we're going to do if we lack a boxing ring to train them in.
OUR INDIEGOGO CAMPAIGN
We have a goal of $7,000 with a time limit of 60 days and today marked us reaching the halfway point not only with the time but donations earned. Now while most many think this is great that we've earned $3,500 in donations I should note we're only able to say we've reached half of our target goal because of one person's unexpected and most generous donation of more than half that amount! So when you realize that and digest that, you realize that the donations aren't doing as well as we had anticipated or hoped for. Our Indiegogo Campaign website states that we've only earned about $1,300 in donations but we have received various in-person donations and also a few bank wires. The problem with this though is that if we don't reach our goal online, the website will take a 9% service fee as opposed to only 4% if we do get our target of $7,000 and right now we're no where close to our target. Moreover, because the site is under my name but the PayPal is under Snickers', this means we can't simply wire the bank and in-person donations received to it, a minor detail we didn't realize when we first started.
THE CONSTRUCTION OF OUR NEW RING
Regardless of if we reach our donation goal of $7,000 or not, this ring has got to be made. We simply have no choice but to replace our ring and so we're no longer depending on our Indiegogo campaign to get us through this. Instead, Snickers may be taking on a second job, working from midnight till about 4/5pm, five or six days a week. The money isn't much but we figure if he'll only have to work a month or two, depending on what extra work I pick up. I really don't want to tutor English again but it may come down to me having to suck up more of my pride and private tutoring. I've already started a side job with editing and doing publishing work for a friend back in Canada. A few years back she had me do work and has since asked me to resume managing her homepage because she is simply too busy to do so. I like the extra work too, I like it, because she's a pro bodybuilder who runs a personal training business out of her home so it's very interesting to me as well as very motivating. The money isn't so good and the time required to do it is quite consuming considering I can't just pick up the phone and ask her about something I'm editing. It's a lot of emails back and forth. But money is money and right now we need a chunk of it, regardless of where it comes from.
