MISTAKE #1: It WASN'T a morning run; I left at 12:05pm.
I'd like to blame 3 overly distracting, overly cuddly four-legged friends for claiming me their hostage and making it irresistible for me to step away at a more appropriate time. I woke up at 9am, had my morning coffee and breakfast, then I chillaxed for a few hours. Yup, it too me about three hours to convince myself to get up and go running, pretty bad, I know... oh, I know!
SOLUTION FOR NEXT TIME: Just get up... just do it.
MISTAKE #2: Downed a double espresso before my run.
My shipment of espresso came in this week and though I'm used to having a double espresso in the morning or having an extra shot in my morning coffee, it's been a month since I'm indulged in this. Consequently, the double espresso I had in the morning sent me rushing to the toilet pretty much as soon as I smelt the overdose of caffeine. I pooped out pretty much all the grade A goodness I had eaten for breakfast which also meant I basically ran on empty. Yuppers, I definitely felt empty. At the 2km mark I had to stop and stretch a bit because I didn't know if what I was feeling was a side cramp or the onset of me possibly pooping my pants because of the coffee that was still wreaking havoc on my tummy.
SOLUTION FOR NEXT TIME: Skip the double espresso and just go for an Americano.
MISTAKE #3: Didn't check my ear buds before I left.
Apparently only one of the ear buds works so I had the "fun" of listening to both music and the surrounds around me at the same time. Ask me whether or not that was totally annoying.
SOLUTION FOR NEXT TIME: Get a spare pair of earphones and check them before I leave.
MISTAKE #4: Decided to try out a new playlist on 8Tracks.
Nothing is more distracting than trying to run with terrible music being blasted in your ears. I am very much dependent on good beats to get me through my runs and distract me from the mileage I'm putting on my runners. I'm one of those runners who can listen to the same tune over and over again but can't run to save my life if the tune isn't good. Proof in point, last week I ran 18km listening to remixes of "Uptown Funk" by Bruno Mars but today I struggled through the 3rd kilometre when "House of
SOLUTION FOR NEXT TIME: Use club work time to go through new playlists and then save them.
MISTAKE #5: I wore a thick sweater in typical Canadian summer weather.
Thankfully my sweater was white. I'm sure I would have roasted like a pig on a cook-out there in today's hot weather. Today's hot weather mixed with the fact that I had gone at high noon, the hottest part of the day, and wore a thick sweater made it brutal for running. And if I wasn't struggling with not drowning in my own sweat than I was struggling having to carry the extra weight. I sweated like a beast!
SOLUTION FOR NEXT TIME: Step outside and then dress for the weather; don't dress for the club's weather. It will always be so much colder in the club!!!
MISTAKE #6: Rolled up my sleeves.
When I returned back at the club and took off my sweater, I noticed I had scored a half-forearm tan that looks more like I just didn't shower than I got some extra sun.
SOLUTION FOR NEXT TIME: Either keep the sleeves fully down or wear a tank top.
MISTAKE #7: At the end of my run I whipped off my sweater without thinking.
I am pretty sure I flashed Sharkie, and others walking by, too much "upper body bum", if you know what I mean... cleavage. It that point, I honestly didn't care, I had kicked my own butt, but I should have been more careful.
I am pretty sure I flashed Sharkie, and others walking by, too much "upper body bum", if you know what I mean... cleavage. It that point, I honestly didn't care, I had kicked my own butt, but I should have been more careful.
SOLUTION FOR NEXT TIME: A simple pulling up of my tank top underneath is all it takes.
MISTAKE #8: I only had 30 minutes after my run to shower and eat before work.
I usually have some down time after my runs, sneak in a quick nap, but today I couldn't because I had left for my run so incredibly late. Consequently, my usual 7pm second coffee for the day was a much needed one at 4pm and I felt like I was somewhat in zombie mode until the caffeine hit my blood and some pumping music snapped me out of it.
SOLUTION FOR NEXT TIME: Either get out of bed earlier to go run or suck it up buttercup.
