As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Unexpected Sweet Visitors... Wednesday, April 1

It was such a wonderful surprise to be greeted by Adidas Korea, to kick off my day with an unexpected visit, but I felt rather shy stepping out of the bedroom to check who was here in just a nightgown.  At first I thought it was just the TV on but then I could make out that Snickers was in a conversation with someone, so I threw on whatever I had changed out of from work last night and left the bedroom.  As it turned out, it was the marketing and sales rep from Adidas Korea.  He has visited Hulk's before, about two years ago when we didn't even have power running in our building, so it was pretty great to show him the after shot of what we've been building here.

I received another sweet unexpected visitor today, Wow's oldest son -- "the First Son".  Wow has two sons, one being nicknamed Kato and another being rather MIA here.  Everyone knows Kato.  He's our top amateur boxer and occasionally he works part time at Hulk's.  But he's got a brother who used to also train here, back when his university and church life weren't preoccupying his time so much.  I was doing a crossfit class with some of the gals when he arrived.  When class ended I walked over to the juice bar and there he was sitting, wearing a Mickey Mouse sweater and a huge smile.  I screamed.  I love the Wow family... I love Wow, Wow Mama, Kato, and the First Son.  They're such a great family and though I wish Wow was here in Korea with us, it was pretty great to have his oldest son with us tonight.

...and speaking of Wow, HE'S COMING TO VISIT US!!!

Tonight Snickers and I indulged in a little cheat meal date after work and we decided to try Wow's cellphone.  He answered!  As soon as I heard his phone blasting on speaker phone I jumped up and started yelling in Korean "I miss you!!!"  Between repetitively telling him I missed him and to hurry back I really didn't get much conversation in.  Snickers briefly chatted with him, maybe a few minutes, and then the phone call ended.  I don't know if what he went there for is going well or if perhaps he's having second thoughts but I vouch he misses us too much to stay away.

Both Wow and Sharkie have been MIA lately.  Obviously Wow is MIA because he's not even in the country but Sharkie has been MIA because of his car accident.  He got released from the hospital this past weekend but I haven't seen him since.  His business took a mean blow because of him being confined to a hospital bed and now I think he's running around like a chicken with his head cut off, trying to bounce back from it all.

Today's unexpected visits from Adidas Korea and the First Son were awesome distractions from us missing both Wow and Sharkie but I wish they all could have been here together.  I was so used to always having both Wow and Sharkie here that to not have them here now definitely feels strange. Something really feels off.  They are missed and I hope they miss us.
