As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Cat Calling, My New English Word... Thursday, June 25

I think I've seen my share of Canadian breasts to last a lifetime, seriously.  Such an odd thing to say, I know, so you can imagine how odd I feel to see such a thing at the gym.

The gym culture in Canada vs Korea, surely not the same thing.

I find it extremely odd that my much-loved, fun zebra training leggings cause me to get mad Canadian stink eye from people exercising because people think they're strange yet Canadian girls training with their long locks down, chest barely contained in their tank top and a full face of make-up on is the norm.  The zebra pattern on my pants are hardly the "loudest" thing at this gym in comparison.

"Stink eye", one of my newly acquired English slang words, it's a more modern term for "evil eye".  To give a dirty look.

And while the trainers at the fitness club here are super friendly, always saying hi to me and exchanging smiles or quick comments, those training don't seem to be very friendly at all, with the exception of those who are there hunting.

"Hunting", Konglish word meaning to try to pick up someone you are interested in.

There is definitely a sense of awe and intimidation that comes with being back training at a Canadian gym where some of the women have muscles bigger than the men and some of the men are so big and buff their necks have been consumed by their lats.  There's a lot of self-love at the gym though, woozers, and there's an equal amount of dudes that need to discover and train their legs.  We may not have the no-neck men in Korea but you get your "characters" with any gym you train at in any country.  Just free entertainment, I say.

However, while those at the gym may not be friendly, I've found that everyone outside of the gym is super friendly.  Scored a high five from a random road worker as I ran home and was introduced to some contruction dudes by a dude I don't even as "the girl who is going to be my wife"... Bwahahaha.  A guy at the lights rolled down his window and asked how many guys cat-call me when I run to and from the gym but before I could answer him I had to ask him what cat-calling was.

"Cat-calling", an English slang word meaning to try either whistle, shout or say a compliment or pick-up line to a woman.   Apparently us females are cats.
