As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

The Business of Boxing... Monday, July 20

As the club hours came to an end, members filed out of the club, the music was turned off and most of the lights got switched off, I sat down in my side office to begin work.  My work here at the club had finished for the day, with the exception of waiting on the laundry that is, but work outside of the club had started.  I had two business phone calls to tend to -- 1 to a boxing promoting agency and 1 to a boxing club, both in Canada.  It was just coming up to lunch time in Canada when I called them both, 1am my time.

I called the boxing club first, Bloor Street Fitness & Boxing, and in a discussion with the manager I was recommended to call Atlas Boxing.  I know about Atlas Boxing.  Many notorious boxers trained there, like Lennox Lewis.  My former Canadian coach, Olympian silver medalist Egerton Marcus, and my friend, Olympian participant, Mark Simmons also trained there.  Needless to say the club comes incredibly highly recommended.

My chat with Bloor Boxing resulted in me calling Atlas and introducing myself to them.  We discussed the potential of them taking me on as my new coach and them being my coach and manager.  Talk of sparring partners was what really impressed me.  The PanAm female champion trains at Atlas and she fights in my weight category, 50kgs.  They also have a male champion who fights at 49kgs that could pose as a sparring partner.  Talk of me getting work there came up as well.  I was then told to put together a professional boxer profile to send them.  Our discussion left me definitely pumped about the potential of Canada.

I have yet to hear back from the all-female club but Atlas has become my top pick because of the quality of the boxers fighting out of it and how highly recommended it comes.  Based on what I know about it and with regards to my own training specifically, Atlas would be my first pick and then Motor City but I've yet to hear back from a few still so I have to wait on that.  Regardless, things are coming along awesome with regards to planning for Canada and I'm super optimistic about the greatness that will come about this upcoming year.  This year is going to change everything for me.
