As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Sparring and Hockey... Friday, September 25

What did I do today?

Hmmm... What did I do this day?!

Having to play catch up with my days for my homepage is somewhat b-r-u-t-a-l.  But I got pics, right, they'll help me.  Okay.

So today, according to my pictures, I had a wicked sparring session and then I had a wicked time at the Leafs game.

Yes, that's right.

With last week's sparring leaving me totally frustrated and disappointed with my own performance, I really tried to up my game this week.  And I did.  My head was definitely more in the game than before and I could consciously digest and dissect better what was going on.  I had noted to my sparring partner the other week that it feels like everything in the ring goes at a slow motion for her, giving her time to see the shots and react but for me they go at super speed.  She had told me that it comes with continual practice and experience in the ring, being able to better focus and relax while sparring, but today it was like what she said started to come into play.  I caught a glimpse of what she had told me and though I note the punches weren't in slow motion I was more consciously aware of the punches both she and I were throwing.

And as for the game tonight, the hockey game at the Air Canada Centre, it was pretty wicked too.  A friend of mine had offered me a free ticket so of course I jumped at the chance to take it.  During the game my friend and I had ventured down to the food stands and I thought I heard someone calling my name.  Turns out someone had been, two people actually.  My hair dressing pro star friend from my hometown had seen the picture I had posted of myself at the game when she then realized I was sitting somewhere by her section.  She then searched me out and when we ran into each other we were all smiles and hugs for each other.

I may be from Canada but it still feels so weird when I run into people I know.  I still feel somewhat like a tourist here.

My sparring partner had mentioned to me that her husband worked at the Air Canada Centre so we had planned to meet up with him.  Leave it to me to add "and I love your wife" into my first sentence when I introduced myself to him.  I do love his wife though.  She's such an amazing boxer and the fact that she's so incredibly encouraging and humble only adds to her awesomeness.  Anyways, he hooked us up with free drinks and he proved to be just as sweet and smiley as his wife, my butt-kicking sparring partner.
