Twelve rounds of sparring at two minutes a round with a one minute break in between each round means 36 minutes we were in the ring.
How come it only felt like a few minutes?!
Sparring was great today, I'm not going to lie or be humble about it. I've been on top of my mental game this week. Having to bounce back from last week's late show for sparring that made me mentally crash as I stepped into the ring, this week I really refocused. I read up on numerous sports psychology articles and listened to various lectures online and podcasts about getting your head in the game. My head was in the game today; I was as mentally there as I was physically. Queen Spar tried to shake my game by going three rounds south paw and using a different strategy whenever I cornered her in the ring. I took a mean hit to my chest in the ninth round but that balanced out the overhead cross jab I landed cleanly in the previous round -- a punch she's mastered and I'm working to add to my "tool belt". She'd keep her jab out to distance me, make me work extra hard with getting in, but I too had adopted new strategies for dealing with her tricks of the trade and so it made for a very though out and well-played sparring match.
