As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Before the Tough Times Start... Tuesday, March 22

I have officially started the newest chapter in my new life here in Canada.  I call it "The Starving Athlete".  I no longer coach at the boxing club and I no longer have any additional financial means beyond that which my sponsor sends me once a month from Korea.  It covers my rent, apartment utilities, TTC pass and leaves me with about $5.  In April I will start personal training one client, possibly two, but that leaves a solid two weeks on this last paycheck I received last Saturday.

Times are about to get tough... tougher.

I'm okay with that though.  It'll be tough but tough times make tough people.

But until it gets really tough, today it got sweet... real sweet.  I had a meeting today with a potential sponsor -- a company that makes and delivers meals.  I heard about them via Coach Perez and they in turn found out about me via his Instagram account and contacted me there.  Today they came to my apartment with some meals and to sit with me to discuss some ideas.

I've heard a lot about similar companies -- companies that plan out your meals, cook them and then drop them off at your home.  I think it's a brilliant idea for busy people on the go and for athletes such like myself -- people who come home too tired and don't have the extra energy or time to then slave away in the kitchen.  I have the time but I don't have the energy.  I've tried to batch cook my meals before quickly lost interest in that because I tended to cook the same meal and eating the same thing over and over got, well, boring.

I like this particular food prep company because of it's size.  It's a two-person company so it's small but they have a good background starting story and I like the idea of being with a smaller company.  They'll try harder to keep their clients, clients won't simply be just a numbers, and they'll be more open to suggestions and whatnot.

Today's meeting ended with them leaving some meals for me to try and them offering to sponsor me.  They're not going to be making all my meals but instead some.  We didn't exactly define what "some" meant but I'm sure that will get clearly up soon enough.  Until then, I've got some octopus to eat before I head out the door.
