As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Today's Hero Was a One Foot Tall Boy... Friday, May 27

I've been sparring a lot lately, almost everyday this week actually.  In the past week I've been travelling to various clubs for sparring -- went twice to Krudar Muay Thai Fitness Centre, and once to Gideon Boxing and ACMA.  No sparring today though; it was kind of a relief.  That's not to say that Coach Perez went easy on me at training though, gosh no.  I arrived at training this afternoon feeling already beat up and mentally exhausted from having confronted two unexpected house guests early this morning around 4am.  Needless to say, waking up at 6:30am for morning training at System didn't happen.  I woke up past 9am, way too late.

Upon entering the boxing club I was shocked to note that no one was there but a four-legged little boy.  With his moppy white fur all in his face and his tongue hanging out, I picked him up and instantly smiled.  He licked my face and I giggled.  It's amazing how a little animal can just melt your heart and ease your stress.  I had shown up just wanting to get through my training and yet no more than five minutes from arriving at the club I am already feeling refreshed.  Ended up gearing up for training, as expected, and having an intense and very focused training session, as not expected considering I originally had showed up stressed.  Due credit here to that adorable four-legged boy, Minnon, who turned my frown upside down.

I love boxing, I'm so blessed for being able to do what I love and love what I do, but it's sometimes hard to keep the passion alive and keep it fresh.  I don't regret my boxing for one second but I know I'm having a bit of a hard time with not knowing when I'll be flying out for my fight in Mexico.  It's very nerve-racking.  I just want to get there and have become so completely distracted with just wanting to get there.  It consumes me.  I need to get to Mexico.  That's my current burden, not knowing when I'll be flying out, but today a little adorable four-legged boy brought some freshness to my training.  It was an unexpected but much needed little pick-me-upper.
