Coach Adamson has unexpectedly extended his stay in Cebu, his family visit, another week and I found this out today when I walked into the boxing club for training. A part of me thinks he so conveniently video-called Coach Marcelo at the exact time I usually am arriving at training, to see if I was actually there and maybe to see my reaction. I reacted by yelling out, "Don't you miss me?!", and then continued about my way, putting on my gear for training.
It was a bittersweet moment but I didn't know what to say.
A part of me was upset that he's extended his visit because it's meant not only has my training being flipped upside down but also the schedule of the other coaches. But then the other part of me knows full well that he and the other coaches seven days a week and get little to no extra time off. He definitely deserved a trip home, I know that. He hasn't seen his family in a while but we were all expecting him to return for coaching today.
Having said that, I'm happier for him than I am upset he's not back.
I don't yet have a fight signed up so it's not like it's necessary for him to be specifically coaching me and this past week I've been training with Coach Marcelo. Coach Marcelo has been killing me at training, like next level killing me, seriously. It's been intense. He's all about saying "just do this one exercise" or "just do that" with his weight training exercises after having already slaved away at boxing. Today it was "just do this one exercise, squat jumps". Turns out his "just this one exercise" included doing a 100 reps of them. A hundred squat jumps, ouch! R-o-u-g-h!!!
Each coach is totally different and I've definitely had my share of "test driving" numerous coaches. But when it comes to training here at Team Insider, if I had to pick between Coach Adamson and Coach Marcelo, is it bad for me to say I wish I trained with Coach Marcelo now?!
I don't get into the boxing club 6 days a week like I use to. Now that I've changed up my routine to include weight training at the gym, I'm only at the boxing club 3 or 4 times a week. So, when I am there, I definitely do appreciate a much more in-my-face, hardcore workout and that's exactly what I get when I train with Coach Marcelo. I don't exactly understand what Coach Marcelo is saying to me, I do with Coach Adamson, but I feel like he's much more aggressive with how he trains me and how he's always trying to give me pointers on form and whatnot. He's just all in my face when I train and we seem to click a little better than Coach Adamson and I. He's super friendly with me but he also really gets down to business when we're training and I really respect that. He's there to teach me and I know that's exactly what he's trying his best to do.
Coach Adamson returns this week, I think on Thursday, so I'll have one more boxing session with Coach Marcelo before I have to figure out if and how to make the switch.
