As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Boxing with the Lil' Sistas... Monday, August 27

I had changed my plans today for the Lil' Sistas.  Today's PT clients and boxing got moved to tomorrow which means I'll be non-stop super busy on Tuesday but it also meant I got to teach the Lil' Sista Pow class.  That's how I spent my morning -- sweating and smiling, giggling and coaching boxing.  It was as fun as it was tiring but it was well worth it.

I'm so overly fascinated with these little girls, the Lil' Sistas.

I think it's just so remarkable how resilent they are.

When I coach them, they're just so full of energy and so full of life that you'd never guess they sport the sad stories and struggles that they do.  I'm really bonding with them and now they all give me hugs.  They gave me hugs before, since day one, but now they're hugs because they mean it and because I mean it.  There's a mutual respect and admiration for one another that's growing.

It was cool to tell them that I'm making them boxing gloves and they all cheered when I showed them the picture of the gloves.  It was just a picture on my phone of my design but they loved it.  The next plan is to actually make the order, get them in, and then order some additional gear like a free standing heavy bag.  It'd be great to have a little corner of their house set up like a little mini boxing club, free for them to put on the gloves and whale away at the heavy bag at their pleasing.  I think it'd be a wicked stress reliever for them as well as a fun way for them to stay active and not get plagued with boredom.
