As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Getting Inked This Week... Tuesday, August 28

Later this week The Refined is hosting a special event and some very talented tattoo artists will be displaying and showcasing their work.  I suggested them hosting a live tattooing and, as it has it, now I'm scheduled to get inked by them.

My tattoo:  a dandelion

The common name, dandelion, means "the lion's tooth" in French and symbolizes a lion, which is appropriate because I'm a Leo, and it represents courage and pride.

Usually when a dandelion is pictured, it's shown blowing in the wind.  This often represents the wish for a good fate and anticipation for things to come.  I've seen it where a dandelion is paired with birds and this has come to symbolize the realization of one's fate as well as the fulfillment of one's wishes.

To me the dandelion represents a hope for the past with the blowing of the seeds and the realization of my calling in life.  I've been told that a dead dandelion symbolizes the letting go of the past and though I'm not totally there with Korea, I am getting there, so I may or may not add a smaller second dandelion with it.

The idea is to get it done on my left forearm, with the dandelion stalk above my other tattoo.  It will then continue to the upper part of my hand, with a portion of it looking like it's blown away and a couple of seeds floating away.
