I always hate being the newest girl at the gym especially when I'm training as a foreigner in another country but the silver lining of it is that no one knows me yet so no one talks to me. Just yesterday I changed gyms. I just couldn't workout at Anytime Fitness and have since left it pretty shortly after joining it actually. There were too many reasons why I just couldn't push myself to train there. Whether it was the trainers who were never really focused on their clients or other gym goers using up the space and machines while they play with their phones as oppose to actually working out, I just didn't like the vibe of the place. I've never been more uninspired to workout in my life and though I'm pretty good at motivating myself, the people at that gym just irritated the hell out of me and ate up whatever extra motivating energy I had mustarded up on my own.
Welcome to the new gym, Fitness First Premium.
What really caught my eye about this gym, besides the badass aqua bags on the second floor and the pool but that's an obvious, was the functional weight training area and possibilities. I don't do weight training in the traditional sense. I train for my sport and my exercises are therefore functional-focused and comprising of compound exercises.
Today's Workout Exercises and Combo Sets:
Tire flips
Kettlebell swings
Single arm kettlebell rows
Figure 8 squats with the kettlebell
Narrow squats on the bosu ball
Sumo squat jump overs on the bosu ball
Decline pushups on the gym ball
Pikes on the gym ball
Double leg tucks on the gym ball
Table tops with weighted medicine ball
Russian twists with weighted medicine ball
I didn't think the ropes were long enough or heavy enough for me to really get a good burn from the four set of exercises I did on them so I upped the reps to try to improve that. As for the tire flips, I wasn't familiar with how to use this new age tire so I asked one of the trainers to help me. Turns out you can actually add extra weight plates on the inside of the tire. That's pretty cool. What wasn't so cool though was being challenged by the trainer. He looked at me and said, "Yeah, you look strong", and then he grabbed two extra plates and attached them. Okay, so maybe it was okay being challenged by him but I would have personally preferred to start off lighter and then build up. I only did three sets of ten reps but the last set was rather rough.
Later on, in the late evening, I returned for a second workout. I wanted to do some boxing so I headed up to the second floor to work the aqua bag. It's pretty humid up there because of the pool and how it's set up accordingly. One problem though, there was absolutely no cellphone connection or wifi connection so I was forced to listen to the only playlist that I had downloaded on my phone -- a Christmas pop list for the Lil' Sistas Christmas event. So ya, boxing to Jingle Bell Rock wasn't so much fun, neither was listening to that one song on repeat because it was really the only Christmas song with a good beat.
Excuses or results,... right?! Right.
