I dropped some big names today as I tried to stay composed and not lose my $#it at the community admin office today. The Lil' Sistas were on route to the Clubhouse and all I had to do was pop into the admin office and pay for them. I was already somewhat annoyed that each visitor was going to cost me 200Php, that's quite steep, but I was going to pay it. The Lil' Sistas are worth it. Turns out paying for them wasn't all I had to do though. Despite asking three different people two days ago what the rules and regulations were for the pool and visitors, today I was told differently.
I was told I was only allowed a max of 5 visitors per household.
The girl kept on saying sorry and I know she was only doing her job but if those three people I had purposely approached and asked about had done their job too, I wouldn't have been in quite the jam.
I had a total of 11 Lil' Sistas and 3 rugby mates coming to swim today.
"If I'm only allowed 5, then you're going to go and pick the 6 little girls that can't go swimming", I told her. "Sorry ma'am... sorry ma'am", she kept repeating to which I responded with "find a better answer than saying something to me that's both pointless and makes me feel old!"
She then advised me I could have neighbours vouch for the remaining visitors, to which I then responded by dropping some pretty strong names in the community -- local well known celebrities that are quite influential and familiar with my Lil' Sistas Project. "Ya, that's right", I thought to myself. "I'm not just some white chick, I'm about to open a can of whoop ass in this office!" Five minutes and a text message later, not only did I have the consent of one of my neighbours but one had shown up to give his opinion of the morning ridiculousness.
11 Lil' Sistas, 3 rugby mates and 2 social workers from the Holy Family Home. Plus me, that made for a fun in the sun party for 17. We played in the pool. Played race games, tag, and we even tried to teach some of them how to throw the rugby ball. We then came back to the Clubhouse, changed into dry clothes, and then sat watching a movie while enjoying some pizza.
Despite the stupidness of the morning and me lecturing them that they need to educate their staff, the party was a big hit and all those invited had a blast. I was so happy to finally be given the chance to do something for the Lil' Sistas outside of the orphanage and it was so great to see them just relax, kick back, and be little kids. There was absolutely no bickering and no fighting. Everyone participated and everyone was all smiles and giggles -- the way little kids should be. I was super grateful to have three of my Lady Mavericks help me out today and after the Lil' Sistas left, two of them stayed because we had training later tonight.
It made for a full day but it was a pretty damn awesome one, for sure!!!
Later in the night, Sister W from Holy Family Home texted me to tell me today was a great day for the girls, perhaps even their best day ever. My heart melted.
