In picking my brain for ways to personalize
the boxing club and incorporate Flipside Fitness and its’ members into it, I
think I’ve come up with a wicked idea – a “motivational wall” dedicated to the
ladies of Flipside Fitness.
If you’re familiar with Pinterest and
follow any of the fitness boards, you’re sure to have seen a stream of trending
pictures with “reasons to get fit” written on the bottom. Each picture is accompanied with a reason,
like “because I’m running out of excuses not to be”. Well, on the Flipside
Fitness Facebook group page today I posed the question to all my members, “What’s
your reason to get fit?” The idea behind
me questioning them is to gather their answers and get many of them painted up
on the wall.
With all the mirror action on one side of
the club and shelving on the other side, we don’t actually have much empty wall
space at the new boxing club. However,
at the boxercise end of the club we’ve got the whole wall to play with. Right now it’s covered with a massive mirror
but it’s broken so we’re taking it down.
We’re planning to cover half the wall with our boxing club logo/name but I want to cover the other half of it with many of the Flipside Fitness lady’s reasons to get
fit. I’m thinking that not only will it
serve as a great motivator to others at the club but it’ll function as a
reminder to them. A reminder of various things.
There are so many people in my life that acted as stepping stones to me arriving at the point I am now and my boxercise gals, all my Flipside Fitness members for that matter, definitely have played an important part. So while painting their reasons on the wall will pose as a reminder of why they’re training hard, I hope it’ll also serve as a reminder as to how I do value them in my life. Also, I’m hoping that them seeing their reason to get fit will give them a sense of ownership over the club and feel more connected to it because though this club may be Snickers and mine, I’ve always said it’s “our club” – Snickers, me, and my boxercise gals. It’s never been “my club” to me. I just so happen to be the person putting it together and running it but it wouldn’t be anything without my ladies. Ain’t that the truth!

At first Snickers didn’t seem too
interested in my idea so I pulled out some sly moves to win him over. Snickers always tells me that a woman’s “first
weapon” is beauty and that her “last resort weapon” are tears. I was by no means going to pull out the tears
but I definitely pulled out the beauty weapon.
“My skin is dry, can you put some lotion on it?” I called out to him
from the bedroom, “… because I can’t reach this spot” I added.
Oh relax, it was just my lower back. I had preyed on his weakness though, put him
in a vulnerable spot, stunned him with my weapon of beauty, and when he leaned in to kiss
me, I slapped my hand on his forehead and said, “only if I can get my wall”.
Ladies, I got you your wall!
