As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Distractions in K-Country... Saturday, February 16

When we parted ways after bowling, I thought I’d simply return to my cozy home office desk and return to slaving over boxing club business.  We had a great night of bowling.  Us two ladies were definitely out-numbered by the guys but neither us of were complaining.  My boy buds rock.  My team won two of the three games, meaning I only had to pay for coffee but scored free bowling and free dinner (sushi), to the night was a huge success.  So it was a wicked night but I was ready to bring the action of the night down and get back to business.

I knew one of my boxercise gals was out celebrating her birthday so I thought I’d simply stop on by, after all where they supposedly were at was just around the corner from my house.  It was a much-needed break from work.  I ended up arriving just moments after they had already left but had spotted them just down the street.  I ended up simply walking them home and then I returned to Mi Gung.  I really had work to tend to.  Next week I have to have my floor plan has to be settled so I’m really feeling the pressure of it, especially because Snickers and I aren’t seeing eye-to-eye about it.

Anyways, so there I was, slaving over my floor plan when all of a sudden Sam text messages me on Kakao Talk… and then it all started from there.  Kakao Talk messages flooded my phone, as did messages on Kakao Story.  At 4:22am another boy bud, Oh Ban, video called me.  I was in no state to be showing what I was wearing, and lack there of it, on the phone so I flicked the office lights off.  Up popped the video screen and there on my phone screen were four guys all trying to make sense of my end of the video call – a black screen.

By 5am the calling and overload of text messages had ended, but then some thirty minutes later the doorbell rang.  It was King Kong.  Snickers followed in after him.  They had spent the long evening playing games – Snickers trying to win back the money he lost at bowling, which meant he spent the last four or so hours playing ping-pong and pool.

By 6am my house finally settled down and everyone’s energy had been exhausted.  King Kong cuddled up with Balboa while the other two passed out on the sofa, and Snickers and I headed to our bed.

It had been a long dragged out evening and though I felt somewhat frustrated with all the distractions from my boy buds, I couldn’t help but feel blessed to have such great people in my life.  Snickers’ buddies have really taken me in as their own and I think they’re just so hilariously funny and ultra cute.  They’re incredibly innocent and very loyal.  I miss my friends in Canada, of course, but I am so thankful for the crew of friends that have entered my life via Snickers.  I love my K-Crew here in K-Country.
