As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

See Ya Later Ggum Guum... Tuesday, July 10

“Step away from the computer”, I told myself.

Something is up with Blogger right now… me no likey!!!  For some strange and deranged reason all my sidebar postings are showing up at the very bottom, after my daily entries.  Not cool, not fun and so annoying.  In trying to fix my homepage I thought I’d distract myself for a bit.

My distraction came in the form of cleaning the house, correction, in wondering around in the house -- opening cupboard doors, looking at shelves, peering out the window -- and then opening up the fridge to clean it out.

I’m so beyond done with Ggum Guum.  Ever since my landlord decided to kill our rooftop patio with the addition of whole new apartment up there my interest in this place has plummeted.  I loved our roof top patio and the disappearance of it meant no more fresh laundry hanging, late night candlelight picnics, midday sun tanning, and no more star gazing in our mosquito tent.  It was then that I realized my once oh-so-nice landlord was becoming rather full of himself and perhaps biting off more than he can chew.  When he moved upstairs to his new rooftop apartment (that I’ve been secretly hoping it’d blow away everyday) he turned his second floor apartment into several apartments.  So if you consider my apartment small, yikes, perhaps you wouldn’t care to check out those below me.  On my floor there are two apartments but below me there are four and not only are their four apartments but there are more than one person living in three of them.  My next door neighbors moved out --- no goodbye, no nothing – so there’s just Snickers and I on this floor.  Two people live on the 3rd floor and I estimate 6-8 people live on the 2nd; that’s brutal.

Then there’s the fact that my house has been wallpapered three times – 1, 2, THREE!!!  I should note that the first two times they simply wallpapered OVER wallpaper, I mean who does that?!  People who deserve a good round-robin head kick that’s who!  And why did they rewallpaper, they did it because of all the mold and mildew that was leaving me super congested and sneezing like a madman.

The location of Ggum Guum is great for the dogs but not so great for anyone with allergies or who likes a clean house.  With the river right outside my window and all the plants and bushes that come with it, it’s always so moist feeling in the house and I feel like I’m constantly dusting!

When I first moved into Ggum Guum I absolutely loved it, mind you it was also so very different too.  It’s been a nice place to live in but I’m more than ready for our move.  I haven’t yet named our new apartment yet but I’m super stoked about getting in and making it a home.  I think that’s one of the main things I’ve yet to really do in Korea – make a home.  When I lived in Ssangyong-Dong I thought it’d just be a temporary thing.  Then when I moved into Sambu I tried harder to make a home but it wasn’t until I adopted Mi Nam that it felt somewhat like a home to me.  Ggum Guum was Snickers and my first place together but still, like the two places before it, it’s yet to really become a home for me.  In all places I haven’t been allowed to paint the walls or any remodeling.  Even when they rewallpapered Ggum Guum they put up whatever paper they wanted – they, not us!  Do I look like someone who wants purple glossy flowers on my walls AND ceilings?!  I’m certainly looking forward to the freedom of our new place.
