As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Crash Landing and Recovering From It... Thursday, April 25

We’re behind in schedule because of the rain – sure, blame it on the rain. It’s true though. Because of this morning’s downpour (that I apparently slept totally through), we couldn’t adhere the floor padding to the tiles. There was way too much moisture in the air. The original plan was to spend the entire day doing the floor padding but when that couldn’t happen and I woke up feeling dead to the world, Snickers let me go back to sleep and he ran off to do other errands.

Woke up around 2pm.

Yesterday’s lack of coffee mixed with about two months of close-to sleepless nights all caught up with me today. And even when I did wake up at 2pm, woozers, I looked rough. I sported some madman bedhead, killer squinty eyes, clothes my arms were oddly all tangled up in, and I was dazed and confused as to what day it was and where I was for the first hour or so.

I was a hot mess… no, I was just a mess.

My day didn’t even begin to get productive till about 3pm when I sat down to deal with the upcoming issue of The Fab Gals Gab -- the Flipside Fitness monthly newsletter-turned-magazine. As I loaded the file up and starred at the screen, I remember just how much I had to do and how little of it I had actually done. It’s been a busy, busy month and to even begin to describe it as busy seems like the understatement of the year. It’s either stay super busy and push myself to extremes or make our debt even larger than it is by hiring more workers to do all the work.

Talking about debt, I stole dish washer soap from Disio. Yes, it’s true though it was unintentionally done. My bank account didn’t have the one dollar in it to buy the soap but because the lady didn’t say anything I had no idea. You can imagine my embarrassment when I found out much later and then recalled the look of pity the lady had given me. Oh gosh. I may be putting myself in the poor house because of Hulk’s but I’ve got money, it’s just not my money exactly.

Anyways, enough about that…

So there I sat sitting at my computer screen and wondering what the heck was I going to do with this month’s issue of The Fab Gals Gab. Besides the gals that contribute to it, I don’t even know if many others actually do read it. Thankfully the Comeback Kid came to my rescue today, as did my Go Green Guru. Both offered to take on extra articles to be responsible for and I seriously wish I could have reached my arms into the computer screen and hugged them on the other side. Great gals… really, really great gals.

Despite my day starting off on a very late start, I did bounce back and become overly productive to make up for it. Got in a good run with my two killer-kool running buddies, both of which I am going to miss our Thursday runs together sooooo much, and then I headed over to Hulk’s to work on more renovations.

Shortly after 11pm I was greeted with the arrival of Mouse Doctor, Cheetoh Girl and King Kong, all of which had decided to come help us out. Though we weren’t able to do the flooring in the daytime, it had to be done so that was the plan for tonight. Five hours later and viola, we had mapped out, laid and cut the flooring. Tomorrow we’ll start to slap on the white pasty sticky stuff.
