As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

A Long Awesome-Packed Day... Tuesday, August 20

The past couple of weeks it was the heat we had to contend with at Hulk's -- the heat holding members back from training -- but now it's the start of a new school year.  Vacation time is coming to an end for most while others are returning from holidays or finishing summer hours/camps but now it's school time.  School time is definitely in the air and we felt it today when our first member to come training today arrived at 6pm.  This is the very latest we've ever had our first member but I sense this will become a regular thing now that school is around the corner.

Don't kid yourself though, despite our first member of the day showing up at 6pm, there are always a ton of things to do to keep us busy, like cleaning the toilets, keeping up with our government paper filing and all that fun stuff.  A quiet afternoon is almost always a hint that we'll be royally slammed with members at our hot hours.  Our "hot hours", as I call them, tend to be 8pm to 10pm.  I call them hot because we get an average of 15-23 members arriving at this time to train.  Yesterday  we had 23 members come between 9:20pm and 10:20pm, so it was quite the intense task, juggling training all these members between just Snickers and I.

We've recently put word out among our members of a Pro Boxing Class we're starting -- actually launched it today.  It's an elite class/team of amateur boxers who'll be training Monday to Thursday together, as a team.  In a way it is very much like my boxercise class, actually the idea stemmed from it, but it's not a drop-in class and if you score one of the 10 spots on the team then you're in but you have to be committed.  My boxercise numbers have dropped because it's very foreigner-based and, well, most foreigners are either on summer camp hours or having vacation time which means many are out of country.  We announced the class/team yesterday and already the 10 spots have been filed.  Among the 10 members of the team, I'm super proud to say that one of my original boxercise gals is on it!  As soon as Snickers mentioned that he wanted to launch it, I made sure to send her word of the team, hinting that I knew she'd be great for it.  Well, she's on it and tonight they had their first official training session today.

One of the "joys" of being in Korea is teaching my Korean friends and Snickers English slang and I've brought this endless "joy" of mine to the club and shared it with my members.  Today I taught them "space monkey" and tonight it was "mofo"... hahahaha.

My partner-in-crime, representing the "above 30 crew", Mr. Jung stopped by tonight.  I whispered to Snickers to not tell him that I've been working on my pull-ups daily.  No sooner did I note this to Snickers but then Mr. Jung asked me if I've been doing pull-ups lately.  "Every day or so", I said, trying to suggest that I haven't but we all know I have -- I totally have!!!  Today I was happily impressed by myself when I killed it doing pull-ups.  I did one set of 14 (a new record high for me) and then a couple of minutes later I did a set of 8.  I've been really focusing on maxing myself out on the pull-ups, not only for our monthly challenge but also to show Mr. Jung I can proudly represent with him -- to impress him.

Work didn't finish at the end of our scheduled work hours, never does though.  After midnight we had a lounge to go check out -- a new lounge opened by three of our members.  They've recently have stepped away from boxing to start their own bar and lounge so we headed out to show our support.  The grand opening is this Saturday but we'll be at camping.  As for the lounge, it's so very cool.  When you first go in you're greeted by this massive bedazzled-looking skull on the wall.  The interior is relatively simple and very classy looking because of the use of white, gray and a splash of orange for the DJ both -- I love it.  "Too bad I don't drink", I told them, "I'd love to come here after work".  I agreed to let them treat me to one of their signature cocktails and what a show they put on making it -- such great attention to detail.  The one drink was definitely enough to kick me into giggle mode so I think I became somewhat of the entertainment at that point.  I noticed that they had Grand Marnier so I made a drink recipe suggestion and next thing I knew it they were opening up the bottle and testing it out.

In addition to being a bar and hence selling drinks, they do have a wide range of menu items so tonight we tried their hamburger and fries -- holy delish!!!  I think they make their own beef patties actually.  Snickers and I sat there absolutely glowing as if we were proud parents or at least the proud older brother and sister of the three of them.  They've done an absolutely fabulous job and we're just so proud of them.  Being entrepreneurs ourselves, we know just how much blood, sweat and tears they've probably put into this place and we both with them all the success... we wish them to come back to boxing too but they definitely have our support.  It's a super posh lounge.
