As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Happiness is in What I do Everyday... Thursday, April 10

For the past fourteen days I have been participating in the 100 Days of Happiness Challenge that challenges those participating in it to find happiness in their day, every day for 100 days.  Today was really one of those days where I surely could have found 100 things of happiness in just the one day.

Today, happiness was in...

... waking up to Snickers smiling at me.
... a double-shot cappuccino date with a friend.
... loading up on spinach thanks to a huge discount my neighbouring shop offered me.
... finishing preparing all my weekly meals and knowing they taste delish -- make-you-sweat chicken curry.
... meeting up with a Hulkie at her gorgeous coffee shop and being treated to free fresh baked goods.
... chatting with numerous super sweet students at Dankook where we handed out our club flyers.
... the beautiful weather and pretty cherry blossom trees that posed as stunning backdrop to flyers work.
... visiting a brother boxing club and enjoying lunch together.
... scoring an extra point in this week's round of the Hulk Point Game at work.
... a very successful monthly weigh-in from not just one but three Hulkies!!!
... proudly watching some Hulkies really go to town on the sandbags and work up a sweat.
... a young Hulkie holding my hand while she waited for her sister.
... a return of a much-missed Hulkie who took a leave of absence from training.
... handing over a notable chunk of money to pay off some of our start-up loan.
... one ultra silly piggy-back ride from Snickers.
... PDA in front of giggling Hulkies.
... a very special visit from a very special family member -- my 'cousin-in-law' Brooklyn.

... and the list could and would go on and on if I allowed it to but I won't.  You get my point.

I've never considered myself as one of those overly happy people, I think I'm too overly sarcastic and I refuse to be one of those annoyingly always happy people I want to kick in the head.  But I am happy.  Times still continue to be tough.  For every dollar that goes into my pocket, it feels like one dollar plus some change goes out to keeping Hulk's running.  Hulk's demands all my energy all day, every day, and then I'm expected to have energy to spare for my own training, my personal time (what limited time I'm leftover with) and for my four-legged and two-legged friends.  I eat, sleep, breath our business.  But you know what, I wouldn't change it for a thing.  I absolutely wouldn't change anything, I wouldn't even erase our debts if I could.  I say that because I've learnt that the struggle is a part of the story too -- the story of our business, Hulk's -- so it's to be respected and enjoyed.  We are trying to enjoy the struggle though sometimes it is very hard to do so, like when an unexpected flood greets us in the morning at Hulk's.  But to dismiss the struggles or just get rid of them entirely would mean all those life lessons wouldn't be taught and learnt, our character wouldn't be tried and tested, and Hulk's wouldn't have such a great significance and value to us like it does.  Hard times build hard people and I am thankful for such hard times.

Today's 17hr-day schedule:

8:30am -- wake up
9am -- coffee date with my friend Cat
11am -- drop by to talk to a Hulkie at her coffee shop
12pm -- hand out flyers at Dankook University
1pm -- meeting at Beat Boxing
2pm -- work at Hulk's
11:30pm -- late night dinner meeting with sponsors
2:30am -- return home and walk the pups
3:30am -- go to bed

It was a very long, very work-filled, hard day but it was also a very, very happy-packed day.
