As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Nothing Free about Free Train Friday Today... Friday, May 2

I tried to get in some sandbag work tonight and managed to do so that is until my knuckle started to bother me more than I wanted to continue training with.  In my haste yesterday I totally forgot to wrap my hands before I trained.  It was a mix between being distracted with helping one member, trying to show something to another, and then a favourite workout song that started blasted that lead me to slipping on my pair of sandbag gloves without having put on my handwraps.  It wasn't until a Hulkie stopped me to ask how to quickly see how to rewrap his hands that I slipped off my sandbag gloves and noticed my very own hands weren't even wrapped.  Definitely not a smart thing to do nor do I ever hope will happen again.  Consequently, one of my knuckles on my left hand is swollen and bruised.

For our newbies to boxing, we don't actually wrap their hands.  Instead, we have them wear white gloves with the club sandbag gloves.  The white gloves don't actually protect your hands, they're more so to absorb your sweat, but when members are just starting out with boxing they don't actually do any hard hitting that needs much protection.  More over the club sandbag gloves and my own personal sandbag gloves are very different in design, padding and weight.  Mine are very thin and light -- not much padding to them actually.

It was supposed to be a Free Train Friday today, like it is every Friday, but with five new Hulkies today, a whack of many mini Hulkies wanting to train together,  our new "7 Boys" team coming in to train, and our Sushi Crew also coming out to train, it surely was a non stop busy day for me.  It was so busy in fact that Snickers' regularly scheduled day off and him only coming in to do padwork from 7-9pm got totally scratched off today's schedule.  He showed up around 5pm, trained and then helped out with some new members and continued to do padwork with members all the way up to 11:30pm.   I put the 7 Boys -- a group of seven guys who are all close friends and who all train together -- through my Spartan Abs circuit today.  I only made them do three of the four sets and props to them for getting through it but it was so entertaining to see them push each other through it.  "But you made it look so easy!" one explained to me after he got through the first set.  "Well, that's because I train hard.  I did after all call it the Spartan circuit and I did make it up myself", I told them.  "You are girl Spartan!" he joked.

This week has officially been our most successful week in months, according to the books that is.  In this week's round of the Hulk point game, we not only doubled the needed points (9) but scored extra.  We ended the week with 21.  New Hulkies continue to walk through our doors, eager to sign up and jump into training, and numerous long-time-no-see former Hulkies continue to return.  Snickers is always so hyper and giddy over new members but I am particularly proud and excited when I see former Hulkies become current Hulkies again.
