Today was a day of losses. I lost a member, she lost weight, and then I lost two of my four-legged friends and practically lost a finger.
LOSS #1
Had the monthly weigh-in for a particular Hulkie who originally came to Hulk's with a lot of misconceptions about training, a negative relationship with food, an unrealistic weight loss goal she insisted would be what would make her happy, and an already slim figure. Her results from her weigh-in were awesome and though her weight didn't really actually change, her body fat and muscle weight did. She was so happy so we exchanged multiple high fives and even some jumping hugs!
THE GOOD: She dropped an impressive 4.9% in body fat (25.3% to 20.4%) and gained 6.36% in muscle (39.7% to 46.06%) in one month.
THE BAD: She's not able to continue training at Hulk's
THE UGLY: ...because she's moving to China for a year of study.
LESSON LEARNT: Despite sometimes feeling like I've bitten off more than I can chew with trying to positively change how many of our members think with regards to training and eating, I done have those moments when I feel I am getting through. I don't know how many I'm getting through to but I am getting through.
LOSS #2
While playing a game, I tossed a ball and ended up whacking my finger against the stone wall. Was convinced my finger was broken. I laughed and I cried at the same time as I danced around the boxing club squeezing my hand against my chest with my other hand, too nervous to look at it to see if it was broken.
THE GOOD: It's not broken.
THE BAD: It was bloody and now it's totally numb and blue.
THE UGLY: As if this particular finger suffering from trigger finger wasn't already a cause for concern, now it's super sensitive to the touch so I might have to take tomorrow off boxing.
LESSON LEARNT: Frozen bananas are a great substitute if you don't have ice on hand. At Hulk's, we have tampons on hand for potential nose bleeds during sparring and frozen bananas for other injuries. Frozen bananas work much better than ice because once they start to thaw out you've got this chilled gel-like substance you can apply to the injury.
LOSS #3
Pyen Chi and Balboa escaped, no need to really say more because the realization of this made me sick to my stomach.
THE GOOD: We found them. They were laying in the grass by the city official's building up the street and thankfully they had stuck together so when we found the one the other was there too.
THE BAD: It was totally my fault that they escaped; I hadn't clicked the lock fully shut so it never locked.
THE UGLY: Am pretty sure all of Moonhwa-Dong residents are convinced there's a wild lion loose and I'm the crazy lion tamer.
LESSON LEARNT: Pyen Chi and Balboa do love each other but Pacqiao loves me the most. Both Pyen Chi and Balboa jumped at the chance to run free in the streets but Pacquiao is definitely here to serve and protect me. When I opened the door to the pup's corridors he was sitting right beside the open gate. The other day we figure that the street cat in our building was what he tried to chase down, because he knows how much I can't stand those street cats creeping into our building. Well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it because it sure beats admitting the lesson here being that I have to learn how to lock a lock, I mean how silly is that?! Exactly.
