You have never seen a white woman jump so high and run so fast like I did today. I woke up in darkness, thanks but no thanks to the lack of lights in my bedroom, and flicked on my phone. Facebook updates, jokes and photos of the flooding going on around town instantly greeted my eyes and made my heart skip a beat. Up I jumped and out the bedroom door I flew without even a second thought. I body slammed open the large metal door to the pup's corridor, grabbed my outdoor runners that were there, and with no socks on, no shoes on yet, and not even so much as pants on I started my search. I searched high and low on all the above three floors. I was searching for water damage from the morning floods that came in the night and took over Cheonan. I reached the rooftop and then made my way down again, retracing my steps on each floor. No signs of leaking water, no small pools of rain and no signs of anything strange beyond me, a Polack standing there with two feet that had just trekked through God knows what, wearing a just-long-enough tank top.
Damn you people, I thought, you people who commented that this flooding was funny. I would have peed my pants today had I had any pants on, instead I started my day in a state of pure panic, thinking I was about to spend the money I've been saving up for my plane ticket to Canada towards mopping up and dealing with whatever water mess I'd find upstairs. Thankfully there was none but monsoon season has yet to really start and so we're here holding our breath.
People really need to check their perspective, challenge it and take a step back so that they can try on the perspective of others.
I honestly don't see the humor in the flooding, I mean someone had bought that building that got flooded for their business and that same someone may or may not be able to afford to fix, repair and take preventative measures for another flood, and that's sad. Where's the humor in that??? If you were to ask that business owner, that school's funding committee and that apartment's superintendent whose buildings were flooded if they'll be joking about the monsoon flooding, my guess is they won't be. Maybe I am being a tad bit overly sensitive here but then again my perspective is so much different than those laughing at the flooding. I don't work for anyone so I'm really not protected. I don't work a cushiony 9-5 job that has a steady paycheck, expected holidays, and due time off regardless of what happens, flooding or no flooding. I may or may not even be able to go to Canada this year because of my business, a trip I've yet to make in 3 years now because of it already. I am an entrepreneur, a business owner, and everything is different for us. My business IS my life now and many of my friends here (aka those in my K-Crew) are also entrepreneurs. We're like a tight knit gang in the sense that we all keep each other in the loop with what's happening with our businesses. Today two of my friends' buildings where their companies are located experienced water damage and so those that could help out did so.
It was a rough start to my day, needless to say, and dealing with the fact that I had over trained yesterday, on supposedly my day off training, well it made for an exceptionally extra long rough day. Shout-outs here to those among my friends (though I know many of you can't even read English to know that I'm sending a massive thanks to you) for text messaging me throughout the day to ask me if our building was OK. As many of my friends know, our building experienced a flooding problem last year and resulted in Snickers and I having to do some excessive rooftop repair work that cost us money we didn't exactly have at the time. However, with the exception of the excessive sweat from our Hulkies hulking out at training today, our building remained bone dry [enter me doing my happy dance of relief here].
Today members showed up late for training so I had some lazy lounging time at the start of my work day, to work on updating the books and whatnot, and then I was pleasantly surprised by the arrival of Stark. He showed up with a common friend whom I haven't seen for awhile and together the two of them amused me with their overly entertaining, borderline dangerous pool playing. Later in the evening we had our weekly Sparring Day to which I was particularly proud of one of my Hulkies who stepped in the ring despite not having any boxing training from us under her belt. Props to her for that and props to all those who stepped into the ring tonight.
