That moment when someone asks you a question, totally oblivious of just how far from the truth their assumptions could ever be... that was me at 6pm tonight. That was me when my club's main sponsor walked through the club doors and found me sprawled out on the front couch. "Lazy day? Are you going to train today?" he asked. It hadn't been a lazy day, I had gone to bed around 5am, woken up around 10am, and was out the door and at Mama Kim's house by noon. I then had business to tend to plus sparring. By the time 6pm had arrived, I had already completely soaked through one pair of training clothes and had done what felt like a full day of work in such a short span of time.
HOW TODAY PLAYED OUT:
10am -- updated club files and member profiles
12pm -- lunch at MIL's house
2pm -- business meeting
4pm -- sparring session and weight training
5pm -- renovations + Internet shopping for club supplies
6pm -- Free Train for all Hulkies (boxing for me)
8pm -- dinner with our main sponsor (and members who came from Free Train)
10pm -- dinner turned into a coffee meeting, with others joining in on the discussion
TODAY'S LAUNDRY:
Outfit 1: tank top, pants and a light sweater
A mixture of a baby spitting up on me and me dropping food on my lap at lunch meant I had to do laundry.
Outfit 2: Adidas leggings, tank top, socks, and a sauna suit shirt
Nothing stays dry through sparring and then add doing renovations while wearing it, hello smelly and dirty!
Outfit 3: Adidas leggings, long sleeve second skin shirt, and socks
Definitely worked up a sweat in this outfit during boxing!
Outfit 4: light pants and a tank top
Anyone who knows anything about Korean restaurants knows you leave reeking of the place because the smell seems to cling extra tight to your clothes, so in the wash this outfit went.
Today I stepped into the ring for the first time with Snickers standing not in my corner. In fact, he was in the opposite corner, with his head gear on and mouth guard in, waiting for the bell to ring so that he could go a few rounds with me, or should I say "on" me. Today we tested new waters and by that I mean today he and I tested how it'd be like for us to spar together. Honestly, I had anticipated it to be more nerve-racking than it was, that's not to say it wasn't before the actual sparring started though. I had butterflies in my tummy and had to go to the bathroom a few too many times before I just thought this was too silly, me getting so worked up. Once my head gear was on, mouth guard snug in my mouth, gloves on, and I was standing in the ring, it all felt perhaps a little bit too comfortable. I wasn't nervous sparring, I actually really love it. I was just nervous having to spar with Snickers.
There was of course the expected occasional sexual advances he threw in during our sparring, like turning an accidental step on my foot into a full dip with him winking at me and then kissing me at the end of a round, but for the most part we both tried to be serious when the round time was on. I know I definitely took it more serious than he did. It was a strange feeling though, trying to get in a solid punch on the one person in the world I'd never want to hurt but yet vouched getting him with a clean hit would impress him. I didn't aim to hurt him but I definitely aimed to impress him, as well as of course take the whole experience as a learning one, something to help me grow as a boxer. And it was a great learning experience. It was four solid rounds of solid learning and I definitely want to do it again, surely.
