As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

The Almost-End of a Very Long Week... Friday, January 30

Despite this work week being one day shorter than the others, it's been a long week.

This week...

  • We were so pleasantly surprised with a generous donation that put our Indiegogo campaign donations at the half way mark of our total goal.
  • Had a friend from Suwon drive down just so they could donate and pick up a Hulk Smash bracelet.
  • Didn't reach our weekly goal in our point system.
  • Temperatures dropped again, costing us more money for oil to run the heaters longer.
  • Brought some new additions to Hulk's, like office furniture and more tournament stuff.
  • Received word that our golden boy amateur fighter got signed for a fight.
  • Launched a test run with some Hulkies for a new fat-cutting program I've designed.
  • Debate launched about possible new club rules and regulations regarding mini Hulkies, primarily how young is too young for someone to join our club and parental supervision.
  • Celebrated our fifth year wedding anniversary and took the day off for that.
  • Found a new favourite hot spot in Seoul.
  • Got word that Mouse Doctor's father-figure (grandfather) passed, then attended the funeral and burial for him.
  • Got word that a friend back in Canada committed suicide this week.
  • Successfully woke up for three solid morning runs this week.
  • Was able to get a former teammate to join our full marathon team for April.
  • Received word that my champion fight in Laos has been officially cancelled.
  • Got asked if I could be interviewed on a live podcast show that wants to talk with me about my professional boxing and Hulk's.

"If only I can make it to Saturday", I had told myself this past week after word of bad news reached me. Saturday seemed so far away but then I realized that my Saturdays are usually packed with excessive training and things to do. Saturday is usually my busiest day and this week it is no exception.

Plans for Saturday (tomorrow):

  • 10am weekly long run (20kms) out in Asan, followed by lunch at Wow's.
  • Taking one of my Mini Hulkies out to buy her a backpack for when she enters middle school this upcoming new school year, March.
  • Hulk's Boxing Club Wine Party at 8pm, which means shopping in the afternoon for snackies, cleaning the club and then hosting the party that will start at 8pm but probably won't end till after midnight.

I love my Saturdays, don't get me wrong, but they're not relaxing. They're filled with lots of training, usually including both a long run in the morning and boxing during Free Train in the evening, so you're a fool if you think that it's a day of rest for me. Saturdays require me to be at full energy from the time I wake up till the time I go to sleep -- 9am to usually 4am.
