As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Closing Up for the Holiday is Painful... Tuesday, February 17

While I thought holidays were great, back when I had a steady paycheck that was predictable and secure, and holidays meant getting paid regardless if work happened or not, things have changed and holidays aren't so great anymore.  Holidays mean time off but not really.  Work continues just different work, like office work, phone calls, emails, and figuring out the books.  So work continues and the pay stops until the doors open for business again once the holidays are over and done with.
I rather work than have a holiday.  I love what I do;  I love my job.  It's challenging in more ways than perhaps most would assume and there's always something for me to rack my brain about and figure out.  The other week it was something with the plumping and this week it's been the laundry machine and Hulk's halo.  Hulk's halo is the large light fixture that is suspended above the ring.  It's a +50kgs light fixture that took 4 full grown men to readjust and put up.  I don't have the 4 full grown men working for me anymore so now it's just Snickers and I dealing with it.

For the next following what-would-be 3 workdays if it weren't for the holiday, Hulk's will be closed.  Consequently this means we worked only yesterday and today.  It's an extra short week and its meant many new members have decided to hold off with signing up because of it being so short.  Also, because many current members haven't been in this week to train, we have yet to receive the due fees of current members wanting to renew their memberships.  With regards to the books, this is a rough week for Hulk's and with only two more weeks of the Indiegogo campaign to run, the holiday is nothing but more stress and different work to tend to.  And don't even get me started with the fact that it's kind of expected us as a business to buy elaborate gifts to celebrate this particular holiday and hand them out to sponsoring businesses, close members and family.  So not only do I not have money coming in this week but I've got an excess of money going out... all because of the holiday.  I can't afford the holidays and I surely can't afford this one.  So I don't want to hear any steady-paycheck-getting person to complain about the holiday, seriously, or I'm going to drag their spoiled butt into the club and go a few rounds on them.
