It's the first day of the Seollal New Year holiday and already I am itchin' to get back to work.
I slept in today, totally by accident. I was supposed to go running with Rocket. I set my alarm, woke up, did my usual pre-run stuff like down an espresso and put my running clothes on. I even put my earphones on and laced up my runners. But then I sat by the coal fire and it was lights out for me. Woke up many hours later only to realize it was now after noon and I was dripping with sweat. That coal heater is fierce! So my morning run was an accidental no-go and then I kind of wrote the rest of the day off as a lazy day. Made my way back into bed and stayed there for longer than I would like to admit.
I had written a list of things I wanted to do over the holidays. Work-related things that ranged from the simple and need-not-write-down, like hang up the club towels to dry and shake the entrance mat out, to the more intense and effort draining things, like update the books and finish the legal paper work for the Nigerian boxing team. I love my lists; they give me a sense of responsibility, accountability and purpose. So it was inevitable that I would create a long list of things to do during this 5 day holiday.
Later in the day, I decided to ditch checking off more things on my list and instead go visit a friend. He was having a kind of Harry Potter movie marathon and though I'll be the first to admit I am not a fan of Potter, I do like my friend and I just felt like getting out of the house, the club. Arrived at his house and joined in on the marathon. Those watching were pretty hardcore Harry fans and all I knew about the series is that the main kid's name was Harry. I love the visuals in the movie but that's not exactly why they were watching it so beyond the visuals I really had nothing to add to their Potter. Regardess, it was a nice change of scenery, I met some new people, saw my friend and another guy I knew and I was loving the heat of the apartment. Sometimes I wonder if people know how good they got it...hahaha. I should note here that my friend's apartment also has a bathtub!!! Bathtubs are a rarity here. I should go there one day and just happen to "fall into" the bathtub and be like, "oops, I guess I just have to take a bath now"...hahaha.
Snickers ended up picking me up later on and taking me on a drive. I had been spolied with a couple of hours of sweet heat and cozy chatting and I wasn't quite ready to go back to the chill of the club, especially considering the coal heater had died this afternoon.
