Today one of my former coworkers who is a comedian who also does a weekly podcast, called Dan & Change Do Korea, interviewed me so after window shopping in Myoung-Dong I returned for that. I had agreed to doing it awhile back. He had told me it'd be about 15-20 minutes in length and would focus on not only me as a professional boxer but also as the manager and co-owner of Hulk's Boxing. I thought it was an awesome opportunity to get some publicity plus it'd be a lot of fun. I used to work with Dan out at Suwon Science College a few years back, super funny guy, and now he lives in Cheonan with his Korean wife. It's funny because he brought up the fact that we worked together and note the first time he had seen me on campus. He had learned of the new professors and then one day he saw me walking on campus with a black eye. It was upon seeing my black eye and how proudly I sported it that he labelled me as one super cool gal... hahaha, nice.
In the interview, they asked me numerous questions pertaining to my boxing and Hulk's and then they ended the interview with asking me to end three sentences that they ask everyone they interview to do. Here are the sentences and how I completed each of them:
1. Korea is the first time...
...I drove a scooter. I still don't have an official legal license but that didn't stop me from not only learning how to drive a scooter but then buy my own.
2. Korea is awesome because...
...I feel like it's the land of opportunity for me. Becoming a professional boxer as a foreign female here in a country that doesn't exactly support female boxing has meant it's been easier for me than most to get sponsors. And now I have a Korean husband and together we've started our own boxing club. I don't think what I've done here in Korea I would have or could have done in Canada, especially not in this short of time.
3. I'm still in Korea because...
...I'm not done with Hulk's Boxing. We have a Phase 2 we're eagerly working on and taking on random side jobs to help fund and launch faster than the 5-10 years we initially planned for. I feel like if I were to go back to Canada now, I don't know what I do but I can tell you this, anything after Hulk's would just be a step down for me. Hulk's is my dream and my dream is here.
The interview was really a lot of fun and I think Dan and Chance worked so incredibly well together. They totally had such charisma together and were super funny. Many of my Hulkies wanted to come out but were shy in doing so because of the reputation Banana Bar has among the Korean community downtown and how it's labelled a foreigner-based bar. They probably wouldn't had been able to understand all that we were saying in the interview but I'm sure they would have enjoyed themselves and enjoyed watching Rocket, a fellow Hulkie of theirs, rock out with her band. We had a small crowd that turned out and I know everyone who showed up really enjoyed the show, I most definitely did.
