As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Goodbye Old Ring... Friday, March 6

When I stepped out of the shower today I suddenly heard a snapping noise and then heard something fall.  Snickers had cut one of the ring ropes and there it laid on the ring floor.  He then continued to cut the rest of the ring ropes and one by one they laid motionless on the ring floor.  It was a sad sight to see, honestly.  I know the ring is but just an object but the time, effort and money that we had put into the design, construction and maintenance of it meant it wasn't just a ring to us.  We had no idea on how to make it in the first place but some friends who also have their own boxing clubs had given us detailed instructions on how to do it and had passed on contact numbers and whatnot for suppliers for parts needed.

It wasn't until later in the day that Snickers got into the real nitty-gritty of taking it apart.  He called in Kato to help him and together the two totally destroyed our ring in a matter of three hours.  But for those three hours though, woozers did it ever stink!!!

Pulling back the tarp from the ring floor, you could see and smell the mold that had resulted from the cold, wet conditions of our club and the untreated wood that had been used.  It looked bad but it smelt worse.  You could see the massive hole that so many of our boxers had stepped in, tripped over, slid into, and fumbled about in.  It's edges were mushy and extra moldy. Many of us wore face masks, propped open the club doors and even had some fan going, to help with the nastiness of the air caused by the mold, but you still choked on the air.

In the evening I had the Crossfit Challenger class to host.  I hadn't yet trained today because of the ring deconstruction so it was pretty easy for my Hulkies to convince me to train with them.  I still had my own boxing training to do as well as HIIT on the treadmill so that's what I did much later in the evening.

Later on in the evening, about 40 minutes until closing, a very special delivery came for me -- new Adidas runners!!!  Training for my first full marathon has meant putting a lot of excess mileage onto my shoes so I am long over due for new runners to train in.  Scored a pair of sweet Adidas runners -- a pair of Adidas Climacool Revolution.  Definitely going to break these bad boys in this weekend and by "break them in" I mean put them to a 28km test (this weekend's long run distance goal).
