One of my sponsors asked me yesterday how long I've been training for my first full marathon and what my total distance has been. I had to search out such stats but here they are:
Official committed to the marathon: November 14th
First marathon training run: 31.10km on November 15th.
Total time training: almost exactly 5 months
Total distance trained to date = 516.87km
Today I did a 3km HIIT session on the treadmill but until yesterday I had ran a total of 513.87km. I thought telling a particular sponsor just how many kilometres I had clocked in would impress him but it surely didn't because he then dissected my numbers.
513.87km % 5 months = 102.77km a month
102.77km a month % 4 weeks in a month = 25.69km a week
My initial general plan was as follows:
- Monday -- 9km short run
- Tueday -- no run
- Wednesday -- 3km HIIT run
- Thursday -- 9km short run
- Friday -- no run
- Saturday -- +12km long run
- Sunday -- no run
According to my intial plan, this means that even at the beginning stage of my training, back when my weekly long run was only 12km, I had set to clock in at least 33km a week but wanted to clear 40km. Clearly my 25.69km a week average means I fell short of the anticipated goal I had created and my sponsor so strongly pointed this out to me. I admitted to missing a few weeks of consistent training back when it was cold and then when school picked up again and I was without my running partner Rocket. Cold morning runs are brutal and they take every ounce of self discipline to get myself out of bed to do and there were many mornings when the evil, evil, E-V-I-L heat blanket held me captive and left me under its spell. Rocket showing up on our club door steps meant I couldn't sleep in and had to get up to run but on those cold days, when school started up for her again, I admit my self discipline was at an all time low on many of those days and I became a victim of that dang heat blanket.
I should note here that though I didn't pull such great numbers at the midpoint in my marathon training, mainly because of the cold weather, I did definitely pull great numbers in the second half of training. In my most successful week, I clocked in a little over 60km and that was done in only 4 runs.
So ya, and while I thought the numbers I pulled for my training would impress my sponsor, clearly they did not. What did impress them though was word that KBS will be coming to Hulk's this Wednesday to interview me!!! Yes, it's true. They hosted a phone interview with me today and then followed through with some additional questions to be answered by Snickers. On Wednesday they will come to Hulk's here in Cheonan and if they think my story is TV-worthy then they'll be arranging for a documentary to be shot on me... very cool!!! This would be an awesome opportunity for us to further launch Phase Two of Hulk's not to mention give KBC a little kick in the butt pressure with scheduling me a fight and Road FC scheduling another one for Snickers.
And speaking of very cool, today my anticipated marathon uniform went to the printers today. Yes, I have a "uniform" for the marathon. What's the point of killing yourself with 42kms if you can't use it as a little self promotion for your business?! Exactly. I may be competing in a city outside of Cheonan but pictures of the race will go viral and sponsors will see them.
"Whose that foreign girl?...oh it says right there on her pants. She's from Hulk's Boxing."
Yesterday I received an Adidas tank top and so today I tested it to see if it were marathon-worthy, which really meant whether or not the top (or should I say the lack of top) would support me enough and be comfortable for me to run in it for hours. It's a very tight fitting, spaghetti strap kind of tank top that really leaves no real room for insecurities and the same goes for my leggings. My test for this top consisted of wearing it through my HIIT training on the treadmill, boxing and then weight training. It received rave reviews and high ratings the most while I was boxing, that's when the delivery man walked in. Usually I am sporting layers, like a sweater or a light jacket, but today I wore the spaghetti strap top. Got a thumbs up for the delivery man who commented that I looked "strong like man".
My uniform that I'm getting labelled consists of a pair of leggings and a windbreaker vest. I won't be running in the vest but will be sporting it both before and after the marathon. I wanted to put our "don't make me angry" sentence on the front of the spaghetti strapped tank top but due to the stretch of it I couldn't. Hopefully the large "Hulk's Boxing" on the front of my one leg with be sufficient enough. I'm contemplating ditching this particular tank top and wearing one of two custom Hulk's Boxing tank tops I have but am not sure yet. They aren't as comfortable as this new one plus the new tank has some sex appeal to it with the bare shoulders.
