I've been here in the Great White COLD North a total of two days so far and so far have been attached to the hip of my dad, Daddy-O... Papa Bere. I love spending time with him, don't get me wrong, but he's talking my ears off and I long to see my friends. It's hard not to get frustrated at not being able to see them but I did come here on an impulse and they do have lives so I can't just expect them to drop everything. I know this but I don't know if they know just how much I miss them. It's like I've got only three weeks to make up for the four years of not seeing them and for the upcoming questionable number of years apart again we'll have.
Starting this Saturday I will be meeting up with at least one friend a day for the next week. It's a booked week. On Tuesday one of my cousins has the day off and has been sweet enough to ask me if I want to spend the day with him -- awesome! He's a bit older than me but he sports sleeve tattoos and a bald head so his looks alone scream that he's bound to be super fun.
My dad and I have kind of made an unspoken deal -- he will buy the groceries if I cook it. I have made all my dad's meals and though he keeps on thanking me and telling me I really don't have to do it, I want to. I noticed my dad's bank statement on the desk and noticed just how often he goes out for his meals. His choices of restaurants include places like Harveys and Burger Kind and I wish he didn't pick such places and that he cooked at home instead. It's obvious that he isn't really cooking for himself and so whenever I have cooked him a meal I have taken it as an opportunity to show him just how easy it is to do so. I then make extras and tell him how he can change it up for another meal. He's a big fan of stir frys now and I showed him how he could simply throw it all into a whole wheat tortilla wrap for a quick meal. He seemed to be overly impressed at the simplicity of it all and my love for one dish meals.
I had a meeting today at GoodLIfe Fitness in which I was then offered a membership for my duration of my stay here in Canada. The place is massive and although I have worked out there last time I visited Canada, I still have yet to fully explore the club's facilities. Turns out the club is a 24hr facility, a point that I didn't know before but will most definitely use and abuse this time around. I thought about going for a late night swim tonight but didn't. I killed my leg workout and then having to run home after it was rather round so the thought of running back tonight meant it was a no go.
I have a sneaking suspicion that Snickers is using this time away from me to really kick his own butt in training. He has a fight coming up but I wonder if he is training solely for his fight or to shock me. Having made this suspicion, it's totally game on. Grocery stores in Canada make it so incredibly easy to eat clean, eat healthy, via a galore of options Walked into Sobeys tonight and BAM -- pre-made chicken salads, yogurt cups with granola and berries, and veggie platters already cut up and looking so tempting. I told my dad the next time he wants to go to a fast food restaurant to come here. It's cheaper and a hell of a lot healthier. I hope he takes my advice.
