When he told me I could quite possibly be his "missing piece", what he's been looking for, I felt the sincerity in his words and knew perhaps he was just as much my missing piece as I was his. Who is he, you ask, he is now my manager at the boxing club where I work and train out of -- Coach Paul Brown of Paul Brown Boxfit.
I had come today simply on a whim that maybe he might throw me some part time work and I wanted to see his club. It's been really interesting to see the clubs in Toronto after only really knowing the clubs out in Korea. Anyways, it was actually suggested to me by the modelling agency I'm in contact with here in Toronto to go visit the club. Apparently my modelling agent knows the head coach and so he urged me to at least drop by the club to check it out so that's what I did. Coach Brown's club mainly focuses on a white collar clientele who are looking to lose weight and get fit, not necessarily fight but definitely get healthier and stronger.
Originally when I came in he wasn't actually at the club; he was out doing errands. I handed my resume to the pretty girl at the front desk and then ended up chatting up a storm with her. No sooner had I left the club but just as I was about to board the subway down the street, that same girl called my cellphone and told me to come back, Coach Brown wanted to meet me. So that's exactly what I did. I jumped off the subway before the doors closed and headed back to the club.
Met Coach Brown and instantly got such a positive vibe from him. He talked about how he doesn't really have many amateur fighters fighting out of his club and that he has no current pro fighters but that he'd love to make an exception and take me on as his little project. I went for it; something in my gut just told me this was exactly where I should be so this is where I'll now be working and training. He's going to set me up with teaching some boxercise-style classes and some one-to-one boxing lessons for work and for training he and one other coach will be directing my training. Tomorrow I'm scheduled to come in early in the morning to watch Coach Brown teach a boxercise class. I'm totally pumped about this. I have a really, really good feeling about this. This is exactly why I came here, for this, for them... for the wicked, wicked possibility and potential of this being awesomely fantastic.
